Mississippi flooding
Anyone from around the Mississippi river area having to deal with all this water? I am in the Memphis area and have never seen anything like this. Plus the fact that the river isnt supposed to crest until next week at something like 48 ft.

I'm in North MS (hopefully we'll stay dry) and haven't seen anything like that either. We lived downtown for a while a few years back and I can't believe it's that deep. Half of Beale is underwater looks like & Riverside Drive is IN the river. I'm just wondering if the bridges down there can hold up. For y'all not from around here, this is a local news station with some good pics & videos of the damage.

At least southerners know how to come together and persevere with mother nature's challenges.

I'm in Memphis and the river is up over Riverside Dr and rising daily. River isn't supposed to crest until Tuesday or Wednesday. My nephew lives in Harbor Town (right on the river) and they're packed and ready to come out to my place to stay until the river drops. Roads are closed, spillways are filled and it's just plain ugly.

Took this one last year from Tom Lee Park, where this pic was taken from is now underwater:
This is today's pic of downtown:

Whats is that Pyramid for?
I have never been to Memphis, so seeing that on the news seemed odd. Unless it was a Casino.2002 CETA - ASC# 0008 - 9-7-2001 | Pacesetter LT| TSP ORY| Magnaflow CB | Poly M-Mounts | ASA Cam | 3600 stall | Tuned By Frost <mail order>

It's an empty building. There was talk of making a casino out of it, which wouldn't have been a bad idea. Bass-Pro was going to do something with it but I guess that's fallen through. It was originally built for basketball games, concerts, etc... but the city decided that it was too small (after less than 15yrs of service, not to mention it NOT being paid for) so they built the FedEx forum for the same damned purpose. The University of Memphis's basketball team WAS playing at the Pyramid but that stopped when the forum (also not paid for) was built. It's an exercise in Memphis's idiotic politics. StaleyCornell, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the guy that built the Pyramid extort a lot of the money that was for building it so the city had to get someone else to finish it? I think his name was Slinker or something like that
It's been a cluster fuck since the beginning.

crazy to think that area is almost underwater now. the waterfront and mud island they show on the news here look crazy.

Last May the wife and I toured the South for 3 wks. Stayed downtown Memphis across from Mud Island. Took the trolley down to Beal Street every afternoon. Somehow woke in our rooms the next morning. Great music and food.
We are leaving in two days for New Orleans. Sure hope everything is ok there. Last yr Clarksville and Nashville were underwater the second day we got to TN.
