Help: loud bang/clunk from tranny area
Well, i just had a new clutch installed a week ago. Everything seemed to be running fine.. Now fast forward to today, i'm driving to work as usual, and go over a bump, i think it's a bridge expansion joint, just like everyday, and hear something like "rattle rattle...bang". The noise sounds like it's in the tranny area, definitely under the floorboard/tunnel. It's like something broke loose from going over this bump.
Now, it makes this "rattle, bang/thud, rattle",.. kinda noise when going over rough road/bumps or between coastdown and speed up. i drove it the rest of the way to work like this, being i was almost there. it's hard to explain the sound, ...it sounds as if there were a big rock down there that rolls/bounces around hits the floorboard/tunnel..?
i looked underneath now that it's parked in the lot, ...didn't see anything hanging, but didn't feel around either because the exhaust and everything still hot and i'm dressed for work.. i hope it's ok for me to try and drive this a few mile to the shop for inspection?

sounds like either your exhaust is hitting the floorboard or you have a busted tranny mount. Does it do it if you take off fast or just over bumps?

Could also be a broken or loose torque arm mount... but like 0rion suggested, most likely a transmission mount. Could be the shop didn't get something tightened down all the way and it let loose.

if it's the tranny mount or torque arm, is it safe to drive it a few mile to the shop? before i parked it, i didn't have any problem shifting gears or using the clutch... just the bang/clunk noise and a slight whine sound...

You should be okay to drive it to the shop, just take it easy.

yeah...unless it's about to fall out it should be fine. I wouldn't beat on it or anything like that but you should be able to just drive it without an issue

Ok, i have an update:
got it to the shop, ..apparently they forgot to tighten a bolt on the torque arm....so hopefully problem solved.. but, jeez, w/ all the racket it made, it sounded as if the tranny was loose and going to fall out!
thanks for all your inputs/replies!
