Not much on the weight savings by removing them. I don't notice any increased heat, but then again I don't drive mine much or take it on long trips either. The only reason I removed mine was for show purposes. What reason do you have for wanting to remove yours?

Very little to no weight savings.. I have removed mine also.. I did not notice a heat issue on long road trips.

If you run a 6 speed and long tube headers, I'd leave the small one on the driver side that covers the fuel lines.
The clutch hydraulic line also runs behind that as well and the hydraulic fluid doesn't like heat. Fuel even more so.
Otherwise I'd say the rest of it is unnecessary if the cats are gone.

Well basically just trying to loose some weight. I wont have cats so i was just wondering if i should remove them since id have the engine and exhaust out. Id like to shave about 100-200lbs while still keeping it street legal and safe.
I figure this, remove the antenna motor, spare, jack, k member, air, erg
Whatcha think?

You might shed 10 pounds by removing the heat shields.

Well yeah. But thats 10lbs gone. And if it makes it look more presentable...even better eh? I mean the antenna is only what...5lbs at most...spare and jack...33 i think is what it weighed...erg/air another 5 or 6lbs...

I have left my heat shields intact, but did take the time to clean them up. I would like to shave some weight off the car but not go crazy with it. The old standby is that you need to shed 100 lbs. to drop 1/10 second at the track. Not sure how true this is as where the weight comes off would be what really matters.

Kmember if you have the money, it's win, win. Lighter, and better weight transfer. You'll get your 200 lbs mark or better. Little weight, little traction. And battery relocation will help.

You guys will have to shave every ounce where you can. Depending on what you want to keep on the car will determine how far you go.
These cars have a ton of crap in them that (for some) isn't necessary.
Taking it out of the front is most beneficial for a drag car. The tricks are endless. I've shared some of the stuff I've learned from racing pure stock in another thread somewhere on here.

if he is serious about shaving weight off there are far better things than heat shield that will provide better weight savings and results... only reason i'd take them out would be if they were rattling... then again my exhaust is so obnoxiously loud i can't hear the radio most of the time...
