Coil Pack Relocate

I borrowed a members pic here because he had a great shot of his engine bay.

The yellow bars are proposed area that might be locations I proposed for the coils.

I would need to measure the coils and try to figure the spacing between the hood and those areas.

Comments?

I know I have seen them mounted in front of the wheel wells before -- maybe in GMHTP.

^ this is what i am going to do.....i would be weary about a lot of these relocation ideas coming in..remember..every wire should be the same size..last thing you want is latency and longer wait to get spark..it will mess with timing etc....i like the K.I.S.S method personally

Is that your beast? A LS7? How the hell you squeezed that in there?

I do like that idea though.

I would try and mount them as close as possible. So misfire won't be an issue, like it could be running them all from the battery location.

I wonder if clearance is an issue with light blue locations? That's where I think it would work out well. Designing whole brackets to remove them (4 at a time) would be convenient.

that link is god awful.......making extensions for sparkplug wires and different length wires..that is a text book example of how not to do it.

Makes the engine bay nice and neat but you fukt if a coil pack goes bad.

Taking a fender off, let alone paying someone to do it, makes the job 3x as hard, IMO not worth it.

I think I would use solid wires the whole way, not use extensions. That makes for 1 more thing to go wrong.

I personally wouldn't really move them to far, but the OP wanted ideas so it was just an idea. I thought in the link the wires were all the same length though. Maybe I missed that.

It said somewhere that there are 2 different lengths, and not to mix them up. Then it shows him hand crimping, with out the properly designed tool, which I think isn't a smart idea.

Otherwise, nothing wrong with thinking outside the box for the location, it's the other steps he takes I disagree with.

yup it is a vette and a ls7..it is not mine unfortunately ..however it would fit in a f body ...and i plan on doing something very similar to that. might use the round truck coils tho..i dont know

I want video and pics if you get a LS7 into a T/A.

I know anything is possible. I saw a LS1 in a Solstice and thought that was radical. Car was scary fast.

the blue areas would have clearance issues. I believe it is only a couple of inches there.

All this is more of a thought exercise for me right now. I would love to move them but I don't have the means to fabricate brackets and wire harness to move them to that location. I think Painless Wiring could help in that matter.

a ls7 has the same external dimensions as a ls1 ..so wouldnt be any diff than any other gen IV swap

So if I were to do it but instead of using different lengths but ones that are all the same length and used the correct crimping tool(would rather just use longer wires vs. extensions though), it would work? I don't know what you guys think about it being mounted there but I think it's interesting at the least. Also I don't know what you would pay someone to take your fenders off, it's not that hard to do yourself. The 85 corvette I had, in order to replace the battery I had to take the drivers fender off. So in my opinion this isn't to far from that.

If you get the wires already made to length needed, no crimping required. I'm sure you could contact MSD and see what they have to offer.

I have 3 bolts holding down my harness..3 on each side that is,,takes me 10 mins to remove the coil packs,,,and to remove the valve covers, intake full removal and install 1 hour unless I drop a wrench,,

I learned all this by trial and error when I had to do some valve masssaging

Leave them or use the available coil pack relocation kits that are out there,,IMHO
