I was trained to empty the mag in them. But this guy (LEO) is criminal and going to the Big House to be Leroy's bitch. That is flat out murder.

Relax everyone, this is Baltimore City, one of the biggest shit-holes in America.
A new murder or scandal will replace this in a few hours.

nothing at all, but i wouldn't be surprised if there are some key details the media is leaving out. i hope i'm completely wrong though. Heartbreaking situations like this are used by gun control lefties and we all know how the media will stretch what they can to support the movement.

I completely agree that this guy needs to be locked away or worse. This incident makes me sick. It is absolutely disgusting that our country loses a soldier because an officer has no self-control or good judgement. Nobody should have their gun on them while intoxicated.

I conceal off-duty, regardless of where I am going (obvious exceptions being the beach or the pool). I do not drink, and therefore will not leave my gun home just because I will be entering a bar or restaurant serving alcohol. Our policy requires anybody who is drinking to be unarmed; otherwise we have no restrictions on where we can go with our service pistols. I will also agree with jad on the tactics side of things, I will shoot until the threat is eliminated, period. No more, no less force than necessary to stop the threat.

Only way I can see needing to shoot 13 times to stop the threat was if the guy was on PCP

We probably all agree about that. Did you read the article? It does sound like the officer will soon be doing time.

Over time, it's been determined that the "double-tap" is a good strategy with both rounds usually being very close to one another. It usually takes a slight (and quick) adjustment after the first two rounds to ensure the impact of the round is where it needs to be, especially if the first two rounds don't appear effective (body armor, etc.), at which time groin and head shots are better options. All of this takes place within a second or so, but the information is valuable from a survival standpoint. Sound tactics, in my opinion.

We stray from this somewhat in what we call REDS training. This training is structured towards situations like Columbine where active shooters are killing victims and regular tactics/strategies are too slow and will cost lives. In those cases I assure you our response is very, very, different. Suffice it to say we ain't comin' in to play patty-cake.
Sounds like very similar training. Two to the chest, one to the head- from there whatever it takes to eliminate the threat. Agreed with the active shooter bit- that gives way to a whole new ball game.
