LS1 Crank Pulley Install Tool - $20 SHIPPED
I just swapped pulley's on my SOM car and decided to make my own install tool rather than buy another one doe almost $50 (I bought one off of here a couple years ago but couldnt find it.) I used the correct thread (M16x2.0) threaded rod and nut along with a couple large washers the size of the head on the OEM bolt. It worked great, but I had to buy everything in bulk so I had enough to make 5 tools...so I figured I would sell the extra 4.
They are about 7.5in long....long enough to thread all the way into the crank and start the pulley and still short enough to be able to tighten it down with deep well 24mm socket (the same size that takes the stock bolt out!) I cut these, slightly rounded the ends and cleaned the threads...they are ready to use and are really the only safe way to install the pulley!!! Using a bolt (even a longer than stock one) to pull it on risks damaging the threads in the crank snout. Its easy to use just seat the pulley fully using this tool, torque it using the stock bolt and then do the final torque with the new bolt and your good to go.

how does using a longer bolt risk damaging your crank snout threads?

LOL...Maybe, you should check that post over there.
Because you are using the threads of the crank shaft to pull the pulley on and that can strip them. Using a tool like this puts the stress on the threads of the rod. This has been gone over quite a few times on some of the more "tech" oriented boards.Last edited by 97ramsst; 06-06-2010 at 04:31 PM.
