    Third Gens

may pick up a third gen camaro this summer...the point is i know that they run about 200hp stock, give or take a few. My question is what should i add to get more hp and tq out of these cars. i know emissions cotrols took a toll on the output for these cars...suggestions and or expected power output? ty

Are you against a motor swap? Possibly an LSx motor swap?

imho 305 is'nt worth your time. Get a 4-bolt 350 and go from there. Have to make it breath to get to a chevys power.

dont even need a 4 bolt. a 2 bolt is easily capable of 400hp. some people even go as far to say that 4 bolts are weaker due to the extra holes in the main webbing.

i ran 600+ hp on a 2 bolt 400, stock crank and rods but studded. take it form me, no matter what you build, stud the bottom end! a couple hundred bucks could save you thousands!

I prolly should'nt have said the 305 is'nt worth your time. My bad.... Because I get heckled about liking v6's.. Build what you like. There's always forced induction. Or even spray it..

    I'd put a 4bolt 350 sbc against a 2 bolt 350 any day..

you're right though--- if you're building, a 305 isnt worth your time. but if it's in there and a strong engine, a simple cam, carb intake and header will make it twice the engine.

i've built both, and wouldn't build a 350 again. too small.

i've never had a crank\rod failure with either anyway.

    Sadly now demodded :(

The small bore of the 305 tends to shroud valves. And the 305 swirl port heads are basically junk. The LO3 engines (TBI type - looks kinda like a carb) put out only 170hp.

If you can find one put a worked over 400 in it. That with the TPI setup and some gears will give you an easy 12 second ride.

yeah swirl port heads aren not for hp--- they're for low end torque. i like the way they act in my 89 chev, but not for a car.

i love 400 sb's though! good power for cheap.

Which is about 10hp more than a single cam 3.4L v6. and 30-45hp less than the tdc 3.4L w body which will eat a 305.. 30 less than the 3800II.. 305 is about twice as heavy as the 207's. But to each thier own. I would'nt muk with a 305 but then again not many folks here like to muk with v6's either.. Even with headers and a cai, only going to see stock 3800II power levels.. Just my .02..
