    turning signal problem

    I get in my car to go to school today and my turning signal is messed up. The right blinker doesn't blink it just stays lit constantly. The left signal works normally. When I put on the emergency lights both lights blink. Wat could be wrong with this? Why wouldn't it blink when I flick it to the right?

    probably the bulb or corrosion in the socket.

    if a filament is burnt out or a connection is bad, that side wont flash. Ive also had a signal not work but yet the hazards do. The turn signal flashes bright/dim, while the hazards flash bright/off. Therefore, if the dim filament is burnt out or has a bad connection, the turn signal won't flash, but the hazard will.

    Yup when all your bulbs are in good working order they complete the circut to the flasher relay. The steady turn signal indicator on your dash is to warn you of a nonfunctioning lamp in the marker light system. 4-ways are usually on their own flasher relay. Some lamps in our marker lighting have 2 filoments, for high and low light. If any one of the filoments goes out this will trigger your speady on signal indicator.

    if this happens a lot, then you should check the housing for cracks and leaks. I know I used to go through a lot of signal bulbs because water was getting in there and blowing the bulbs. As soon as I replaced the housing with one that didn't leak, problem solved.

    For future reference keep an eye on those sockets. I had to start replacing mine because the connections were getting bad and cleaning was becoming too frequent. The symptom was every so often the signals wouldn't blink. You would start pulling bulbs and find they were good. You would wiggle them back in and everything worked fine. Then one day you would start all over again. The sockets will wear out fast if you are getting moisture in there. I had a lot of problems with my rear lights.

    you can always get a little dielectric grease for the sockets after you get them nice and clean. The sockets do come a part, real pain though. In case you need to do a good ole baking soda clean. I don't recommend the sand paper or emery board. That will most definitely short the life of the sockets.

    hope this helps for the future. nothing worse than driving a cop magnet when a light goes out, .

    hah, wait until you try your first spark plug change, lol....

    I had to replace a front signal, man it was a pain. And to think I let my wife convince me to buy clear signal lights.

    hope you get it all taken care of. I am super paranoid in my area. I pulled on the highway one day and made a quick lane change. The state trooper heard my car and immediately pulled in behind me. I could see him running my plate. He pulled up next to me as he passed, man he gave me the evil eye, gulp.

    So I take my turn signals and brake lights seriously. It is a stop able offense, and I don't like being pulled over.

    Has anyone run into a situation where the front turn signal bulbs/sockets are working (for example they light up when I hit the lock button on the key fob) but they don't work when the turn signals are on. They also don't work when the hazards are on. I've heard this might be a relay issue? Where would that be located?

    yep. since the bulb is a two filament bulb. You will sometimes see the light blink with your alarm, but the signal part is blown. I used to have this problem. Drove me nuts because I thought I could use the alarm to help know when a bulb was bad.

    I think you will notice the same thing with the rear brake lights too.

    you may just want to pull the light and take a look.

    both of my z28s are old and had a lot of socket heat and water damage. but any time i had a signal problem it was always a busted light. I'm not saying it could not be something else, but i my cars I always started with the bulb, and always kept spares.
