ok, so here's what happened since i vht'd MY tails. I gotted pulled over by the AZ highway patrol and the officer said that they were way too dark. He gave me a fix it ticket. Then in the next couple of days, i had someone almost every night roll their window down and tell me my lights were out. So i pulled them off and sanded them with 220 grit on my orbital sander all over evenly, and then wetsanded them. Then i hit them again with the VHT. At the same time, i hit all 4 marker lights with the VHT. (Can anyone say black?) Then i put them back in. I still need to wetsand them with a finer grit(i used 1500) and then clear coat them, but i am happy with the way they turned out. They are uniformly black, and you can still see the lights shine through. The marker lights are history though. I am going to pull their bulbs now.

haha damn right. i did the same thing to my z28. but i just masked off the reverse light and did a couple of coats of vht. reverse light is all white, but then again i have limo tints on my rear window, and 5% on the sides. so i cant see where im backing up at night unless windows are down..
