Trying to find out what triggers his over eating may not be an easy task. And the PS3 is probably more of an enabler than a cause IMO.

Either way, if you are really worried about his overall health, then possibly getting him someone to talk to may be an option.

    There is always a reason.
Yea, that could be true. But, i mean he has freinds who will come over to our house and ring the doorbell and ask him if he wants to come out and play he'll say "no not today guys i'm too tired". I ask him to roll out with me all the time "Hey man get off that game and lets roll out". He'll say "no man thats ok you go ahead". Theres obviouisly something weird going on with him and i'm really at a lost with what it is.

It makes me wonder.... if there is someone at his school thats fucking with him and it's getting too him. I'm gonna see if i can get something out of em on it.

As an earlier poster said, the threats don't mean anything because he thinks he is bulletproof.

If he is disinterested now in anything, is he the subject of incessant bullying at school by his peers?

Make him walk around the house with no shirt on. Anytime he is home...sitting...playing games whatever....make him go shirtless. It will embarrass the shit out of him and make him self motivate to knock it off and get in shape. Encourage him. Workout (start by walking) with him. Set the example. But I shit you not. Being embarrassed of anything is the biggest motivator I have ever found. Humans do not like to be embarrassed. Tell him how big his man titties are.

As cruel as it is, embarrassing the shit out of him should help. I started going through weight problems at that age too, weighed about the same as him, but I was 6'1 and just beat the crap out of the people who made fun of me, lol. You know what got me to bring my weight down? I wanted some pussy.

yea he usually sits around in a wife beater letting his jelly hang out all over the place so taking his shirt off probably won't make too much of a difference.

I really think he has a problem with that PS3 though. He'll eat a shitload then go upstairs and play PS3 for 7-8 hours without anybody even knowing. I'm usually gone. My parents are home but can't stop him from playing the PS3 without hiding it. Everywhere they put it he finds it. So i don't know just wanted to see some different methods people would use in this situation.

Why did they buy it in the first place. PS3 hasn't been out that long and he didn't get that way over night. More than anything though, it sounds like he needs new friends. Get some friends on the cross country team. On the other hand...he must be a beast at football. He's gotta have a weight advantage on pretty much all the other kids.

I saw the same thing with my son & nephews. My correction was to:

    1) Restrict the gaming station to up to 2hr after all home work is done, and on weekends again 2 hrs only after they go play outside.

    2) Bought a wieght set, started working out with them.

    3) Put my son into Karate, my nephews decided on soccer.

    4) 3 times a week make them go run at least a mile, my son is now up to 2 miles.

He may hate it but if you and your parents don't get firm with him it will be devastating to him later in life when his metabolism slows down in his 20's

IMHO it's all how folks get raised. I am NOT judging ANYONE, but some folks let their kids do whatever the hell they wont rather than getting their kids up and out.

I was a fat kid too. My old man was a life time biker. Anyone whom knows bikers knows they are usually very good @ busting balls. Embarassment was definetly my motivator.

When I desided I'd had enough, I saved up my money and went out and got a bunch of used work out equiptment. Bigass wall mount weight machine, a stepper, rowing machine, free weights out the wazoo, and also started bycycling all over the county. I got huge! It was like an addiction then. I had a 19+ inch neck and my arms were in the 18+ inch range. (still have an 18 inch neck and 17ish on the arms).

But that did'nt stop my old man even though I was taller, stronger, and in better shape than he was. He was'nt fat @ all. He just moved to calling me "no neck" and "gorilla" lol.

Every time he needed something heavy moved he'd holler, "hey no neck get your ass out here and give me a hand!" I lived on the weight bench. He had every tool known to man in his shop, but instead of dragging any of them out he'd just get me to do things.

I those days I'd probably picked up and moved more Harley Motors than Gatto Cycle shop (Harley dealer here and friends of our family). Anyway, I think you just gotta get people motivated. We were not allowed to piss around with video games. My buddies all had video game sets, and most of them were over weight too because of it.

One of those friends now that we are older had a heart attack @ age 27.
Whatever it takes man get him up/out and moving..

Pussy is one strong motivator for sure. Except for Orion. He waits for the vacuum cleaner sales guy.

Steven, after reading this I am thinking that just maybe, your brother is not motivated by the same tactics as you were. In fact, if your Dad is a huge ball buster, it may be having the exact opposite affect on your brother. And, also not judging here, but your Dad may be unintentionally contributing to the problem???

Get him cocain... Or crystal meth. He'll shed those pounds fast!!!

Honesty if he doesn't want help then he won't listen.... So tell him when he is ready to shape up and become more fit, then ask him to tell you. And then you'll help as much as you can. It might take a docs visit to motivate him. Ps3 or not, he will find something to do in order to do nothing.

Christmas is coming a nice bra for his man boobs will help. What about getting him another hobby? Try some different things like paintball or biking. Something you guys can do together that he might enjoy more than games. Remember he is 13 and thinks he knows everything already.
