american racing TTMs
sorry for the dumb question but will american racing torque thrust m with a size of 17x10.5, offset 44mm, bolt pattern 5x4.75" work on the rear of a stock height 99 z28? I do have a fully adjustable panhard rod. lowering the car not likely to happen. at least not any time soon. oh forgot to mention, I dont want to have to use spacers or a bfh mod. if they dont fit I'm totally happy with getting the 17x9s all the way around. a lil wider in the back would be nice though
again, sorry for the dumb question. been looking for hours at a bunch of different posts. makin my head spin with all the different sizes and what not.

I don't see you having any fitment issues with the 17 x 10.5s.

ok. getting really close to finally getting some better looking rims and tires. gonna try the 10.5 ttms on the rear and 9s on the front. 17in rim. been looking at the very few tires that are 315s for the rear. so far the only ones I could find in my price range (which is moderately cheap) are kumho ecsta xs. I could run that same tire on the front and rear. which I really like. so before I plunk down a crap load of money. I was wondering what you all think of that combo?
I know I can get nittos and a few other brands but I'm looking to try and keep the same tread pattern front to rear. mostly for looks.
what do you all think?

hmmm..... dont like hearing that. maybe I should just stick with the original plan. reason for me thinking about that was I found a web site called customwheels.com. I called them and the fella there said 315s right off the bat for a 10.5 wheel on fbods. I've been looking under the car and measuring things. It does look pretty tight. my problem is I'm so fired up about getting new wheels and tires. the mind is buzzin with all the options.

Comparison: 17 x 10.5 +44 offset vs. 17 x 11 +50 offset with a 315/35/17 tire.
Inner fender well
With the 17 x 10.5 will have about .24" more tire clearance and about .5" more wheel clearance than the 17 x 11.
Outer fender lip
With the 17 x 10.5 your tire will be about .24" closer to the fender lip than with the 17 x 11 .
Also don't forget that the overall tire width will be less on the 10.5" vs. the 11" wheel.

ok. got the wheels for the front in a while back. still waiting for the rears. should be here this week. found a site called discount tire direct. I'm thinking of ordering some nitto 555 extreme performance tires from them tonight. price for a set being 245 40 17 front/ 275 40 17 rear is about 550 with the road hazzard shipped. I've never done business with this place before. so just wondering if anyone here has heard of them or bought from them and how ya felt about it.
Thanks.

So why the choice of tire sizes listed above? Also you don't want a 245/40/17(too short), a 245/45/17 is the size you want if you want them the same height(factory height). If money permits I'd go with a 275/40/17s front, and 315/35/17s rear(around $165 more, nitto 555).
You could also go with a 255/45/17s front, and 285/40/17s rear, in a nitto 555, for $42 more, and yes DTD is a good place to buy tire from!Last edited by Blue28; 07-28-2009 at 11:45 AM.

well I ordered them earlier this evening when I got home from work. the guy told me that the 245 45 17 front 275 40 17 was commonly used for our cars with that size for wheels. I asked about going with a wider tire and it was just a big ?
so I went ahead with that size to insure that I wouldnt have to bend any sheet metal. so we'll see I guess. if it dont look right to me I'll be getting something else.
I'll show some pics hopefully later on this week.

you are right on the 245/40s being too short, but then why do you say 255/45s and 285/40s? thats going the other way, too tall.
you can use all the assurance from any one you want, but i did what you did. i would rather say , ive got room for bigger tires, than to say, these wont fit.

exactly. I knew I wasn't going to be happy if I would have had to roll the fenders to make them fit or take it out for a drive and hear them rubbing. having bought 10.5 rims for the back makes me think I'll have to bang the inner fender anyway. which doesnt really bother me too bad because I know it wont be seen. I think it'll work out pretty good. if I find I can go wider I can always move the back tires to the front wheels and go larger out back.

A 255/45/17, or 285/40/17 are still within factory tire height range.
Example:
245/45/17 = 25.68", 255/45/17 = 26.03"
275/40/17 = 25.66", 285/40/17 = 25.98"
I just wanted to make sure you were aware of your options.
Good luck with your choice!
