sounds like your not getting fuel! how many miles are on the car?
check your fuel filter, and definitely check the TPS and IAC. they can cause very erractic behavior.
Also check your fuel injectors!
if you have to drive to a dealer or mechanic, drive slow. A lean engine will be burnt engine in no time.. then you will burn up a piston!!
oh yeah check the o2 sensor, usually they cause the car to go rich but you just never know.
unplugged the batter for awhile and reset the PCM

are you running a K&N filter? If so I would clean all sensors and reset the computer. I had problems with over oiled filters. Just a though.

Didn't you just have your motor replaced....I remember you saying something about that. Is the car doing the symptoms when it's at running temp or just cold start-up? I'd start by checking your fuel pressure at start-up and idle.

relax for a minute. Sounds to me like a vacuum leak. This is especially common after a motor swap because old brittle vacuum lines can easily crack when someone is trying to manipulate them on or off. So, start checking any and all vacuum lines.
If both banks went lean at the same time, it really leads me to think you are getting unmetered air into the engine. Your thought on the IAC could be valid, except an IAC shouldn't make any difference to the engine once you take it off idle.
IMHO, it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. The more and more I think about it, the more it makes since. You say the problem is getting worse. That would be fitting for a vacuum hose that is degenerating more and more.
Good luck. Let us know what the deal is.

well i think ive finally got it!! god i hope!! i just took the car to an auto place i know to be pretty good. and he checked it out and immediately said there is a leak on the egr hose (the one that connects on top between the tb and the intake manifold. there was a loud hissing noise, which is a leak!!! that would explain the rpms being so erratic, and the ses light. prob. just got loose or not hoooked back up right when the new motor was put in. so he thinks all the sensors are prolly ok. yay! he said it should be ready tomorrow. well see. pray for me. lol

Exact Same Symptoms
Baseball--Your symptoms sound exactly like mine after installing headers. I've reset ecm twice but the 171 and 174 codes keep coming back. Also have the whacko high idle. Did you find your problem to be with the egr tube? I really struggled with mine getting it attached to the header so am wondering if I broke it.
Where else would I look for vacuum leaks?
Man do I get a huge amount of info from all you guys!!

Update
So I go out to the garage after reading this stuff and start looking around the egr. Disconnected tube from intake and found the subber tube seal on crooked, providing no seal at all. Straightened it out and car runs entirely differently. think that fixed it. Damn, so easy and so careless.
Great advice and hints here!
