    1999-2002 had plastic fuel tanks.

Really quite easy to pull down too.

I had my car up on my dads lift before I ordered the fuel pump and was researching this access panel method, If you don't care about your car go for it. Since I was going to be waiting on the pump to arrive, just like you, I just went ahead and pulled my exhaust, lowered the rear end and unbolted the straps holding the tank. I had 10 gallons left of gas though, so I had to take it back down to the ground, then lowered my tank down. It's not hard, just a little time consuming.
basically, if I were you, (waiting on a pump) I would go ahead and drop the tank.

well i plan to empty my tank out before any cutting so i can clean it out. my dad has a crazy air compressor that can blow out whatever sediment is in there. i want to drive the car still so that's why i havent dropped the tank while i'm waiting for the pump. i still haven't decided what method do go with yet tho. what do you mean by lowering the rear end? like lowering the 10 bolt?? or just the back end of the car?

Oh well if your still wanting to drive your car around then I would probably just do an access panel. My pump went out completely, so I just pulled it in my dads garage and lifted it to start wrenching on it. If you put your frame on jacks and not the rear axle, you can pull the wheels off and probably have enough room to squeeze the tank out. I left it at my dads and when I was at work he went ahead and dropped the axle for me.

Me and a buddy dropped my tank, switched out, and had everything back together in 3.5 hours. Worth the extra effort IMO to not have to go through cutting and risking cutting gas line kaboom

I'd drop the tank too. I think you could clean it out 10 times better if it were out of the car.

BTW Cadillac Deville and Sevilles have an access door in the trunk for the fuel pump.

This "crazy" compressor is going to blow all the sediment out of the tank and into your interior? The smell of gas in my interior is not what i'm looking for.

One thing I would think about is how many fuel pumps do you expect to be putting in over the life of the car? I mean most people will change out the pump once and that is it. You said you don't race it so unless you really go to some high horsepower motor I don't see why the door would really be a requirement. That being said I would say keep the structural integrity of the car in its stock form.

    Again another IMHO.

The 98's had metal gas tanks not plastic.....but still....I wouldn't cut your car up to just get to the fuel pump. But, to each their own.....
