    99 TA Rear Clunk

Occasionally I can feel a clunk that is coming from the rear end when I accelerate from a dead stop. Also on the highway this morning at 2500 RPM (automatic) I could accelerate and decelerate back and forth and something is clearly loose back there. I could feel the car pulling - almost as though the axle is loose.

    Any ideas?

Tighten your lower control arm bolts. After installing my subframe connectors I had the same symptoms on my car. Tightening the LCAs fixed it.

Control arms are tight; I'm not sure why they would loosen......

how long have you owned this car..has it always done it? Try driving any other firebirds? these cars are clunky noisy in the rear...my wifes 99ta clunks like hell when you put it in reverse...and below 40 mph letting on-off the gas it clunks.

It was indeed the control arms. I tightened them to 80 ft/lbs...and the clunk in gone. However....I have some "slop" in the differential. With both rear wheels off of the ground, I could move each wheel with a fair amount of movement before the driveshaft moved. Any ideas about that one?

You'd better be able to move the wheels a fair ammount before the drive shaft moves or your gears would be toast, your fine.
