he told me there was an is being released with a v10 putting out over 600hp as toyota's break into super-cars. I assumed it was the is-f. as far as i know C&D has not reviewed it yet. he told me that at the manager's seminar they were putting it as their biggest release since the twin turbo supra. he also told me that they were told the new supras will be single turbo'd v8's, he said he thought there was a connection between it and some of the top of the line lexuses ie. ls460 putting out 420hp.

No.
You're probably talking about the Lexus LF. Again, I'm taking everything you say with a grain of salt. Seeing as you're 17 and from TN, I really don't think you know WTF you're talking about. No offense... but I don't even think Toyota has a single office in TN.

just because I am from tennessee and 17 doesn't mean anything. My father makes 2mil+ per year depending on how the healthcare system is working out that year. My father has introduced me to most of the people he goes to places like buffulo chip for sturgis and related places. I actually spend more time with a few of them than he does. heck the 3rd car I ever drove was a 911 turbo, because I was spending time with one of my dad's friends and he asked me if there was a car in his 40 car garage that I would want to drive with him in the car. I am a long time porsche fan so it was an instant choice. that person was the starter of the "10 10" numbers in the 90's he started the company "10 10 2 20" for 2.3 billion when he predicted the market was about to drop. He lives 2 houses down from one of my dad's houses. The person I know that is a toyota manager is the owner of 12 toyota dealerships across the south east. Me and him went for a 2 hour drive 2 weeks ago through some curvy roads in sale creek and rhea county for some fun. With us were many people in similar financial situations. as an example my car was the cheapest out there. the other cars out there were: a 1999 toyota supra twin turbo set up for producing 900whp, lamborgini testarosa, porsche 911 gt3 rs, and an astron martin db9. Just because I am 17 and from tennessee doesn't matter. I do know many influential people. the guy who had the toyota dealerships kept talking about them. I didn't pick up on all of it, because I really could care less about toyota's new cars. most of them too me are overpriced and not something I would really want. I don't remember any real specifics because of that.

First Bubba, ITS a Skyline. Nissan can call it what they want to try to market this thing as the GT-R, but me, car enthusiasts, and the rest of the automotive community will call it a skyline. end of story, if you want proof, just ask and I will find some or I'm sure Joe can do it. I think that was a dumb move by Nissan to drop the name, and use the concept name, but maybe thats why they don't have cars with the same name for years and years like Corvette, Camaro or Firebird. I do like different but why lose it.
Second, Joe. Relax, you're goin to hurt yourself, you are responding like an a$$ to some of these people. And yes, you didn't know what PS is. And, yes this is a LS1.com forum, don't expect much love for the skyline here...(notice the use of skyline) It is a great car all around tho.

This thread is getting off topic...But I may as well join.
The lexus LF is an M3 fighter, I'll add them to the "smoked cars" list when I see one. Cool car, but not my cup of tea. It's a v8 producing in the 400's HP, can't remember the exact number.
R-35. Is a Skyline no matter what anyone says.
R&T openly said, the skylines interior is no better than the Z06, exterior looks about equal.
U.S. does have very strict emission laws in some of our states, which varies because it is controlled by states. Crash requirements are high everywhere because they are federally controlled. Still emissions are much more strict here, notice that the highest performance japanese cars came here so much later, and had lower HP.
Toyota showed a car that would take place that the Supra left, however from what I've heard they are working hard to make the car a hybrid. A good idea, since sadly I see the 70's all over again. Hold on to your performance cars everyone. Soon we will have democrats in office, "Say buh bye to the horsepower wars."
Either way Skyline V Z06 I choose Z06. Hell, Skyline V my camaro, I choose my camaro.

Pewter- 2002 T/A WS6
Dude, you come on to a site that appears to have nothing to do with anything you own and without telling us anything about yourself or what you drive, or have driven, we don't even know YOUR age - yet you insult someone because they live in a particular state (which is quite offensive and shows prejudice) and over their age.
Why do you think you are smarter than someone because they are from TN? Or older than them? Your place of residence and age don't determine your knowledge, YOU do. You've opened this thread up into a whole new level by introducing something like that. Saying something as ignorant as what you did about him discredits you in other people's eyes.
Back to the main topic being discussed:
Yes, the GT-R is a Skyline - I even heard it on television last night on Speed and they were giving a close up look on it at a recent auto show. It's a nice car, and I've never said it wasn't. I like the old Skylines, and have seen a few in person before to get a really good look at them and hear them, etc. I would still take an SS, WS6 or Z06 over one though because the performance is still there and I personally like the like looks and sound of those three more.
We'll see more deeply into the performance argument in the near future when these cars have all been out for a while. Same goes for modifying too since people need some time to get parts out there for them and we'll see how it goes then. There is way too much hype surrounding this car and it has fans of the Skyline greatly excited about a car that is going to "own all". There is a problem with that though...
Why I don't think GT-R sales will be very good (despite being a great car):
- The means by which Skylines are popular in America: Manga, Anime, Fast n Furious culture, Touge videos like JDM Option, internet street racing forums, etc. This isn't exactly the kind of age group of 'fans' that can afford this car. There are people w/ the kind of money for it that will research it, but the loyalty isn't already established with the correct crowd of buyers this car is meant for. If you are 22 and want a new GT-R; play the lottery or keep dreaming.
- Since this is essentially a NEW car here in America, as I said - it doesn't have itself established with it's model name. While Nissan may be popular in America - it's doesn't scream performance and heritage when you the name Skyline is spoken like the name Corvette does. Everyone knows what a Corvette is and many people want one some day. Corvette is right in the sales area that the GT-R is trying to break in to in America and the buyers that can afford either one already know the Corvette name and that they are getting a high performance car with a great heritage that many want to own a piece of its history.
- Already mentioned the high cost.. but I didn't mention that there is no lower model Skyline (GT-R being a high-end model traditionally in it's lineup) to provide buyers with less money a means to owning a 'dream vehicle'. This cuts out a huge chunk of possible buyers already, and people will go elsewhere. Imagine if there were no base model Corvettes over the years.. no way sales would have been as great.
I could mention some less important reasons, but I need to start getting ready to head out to the television studio so I am not late.

I like some old skylines too...The ones that people put LS1's in. Don't see many people doing it the other way around though. Still Skyline probably would be a better engine to have in my car. NOT.

Monterey Maroon Metalic- 2000 Z28
Back on topic...
After I first posted here I went home and read the full article in R&T and after they did their two page spreads on technical data, driving impressions, performance figures, etc. of each of the three cars, there was an additional 4+ pages of nothing but GT-R stuff! The magazine is clearly selling the image and performance of the car, fluffing it up as the OP suggested.
As for the language used, "GT-R Spanks the Z06 and 911" helps sell magazines because people like me read that at the news stand and say, "no fawking way!"
In reality I think the GT-R is going to be considered a semi-exotic car in the same way the C6 Z06 is due to it's high price of admission and somewhat low production. Probably won't see one once a week unless your neighbor has one.
I don't think the GT-R will flop though as there are too many high dollar tuner cars out there to say the money isn't there. It's just that they have been spending big money on modding Evo, STI and dead platforms Supra, NSX but now they have a new car to tinker with and I am sure new youtube and streetfire vids will be posted within hours of the GT-R arriving in dealers.
One thing is for sure though, whether you love it or hate it the GT-R is going to help spice up the kill forum! I see a Procharger D1 in my future...
Supposedly the ECU in the GT-R is "unhackable." I wonder how long that lasts.

Hugger Orange/W stripes- 1999 Z28 M6
Same tiring rhetoric for imports
I read the review and, like usual, I am very skeptical. I have been that way ever since I started seeing a tendency for them to make every single Mercedes look like it has no equal. Just go to the summary page and look closely at the performance stats for MB. Several of them have exactly the same HP, a weight difference of about a half ton, yet the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are almost identical. Sorry, no way.
The current Nissan comparison to the Z06 is only slightly more than theoretical at this point. Let's re-visit this issue in a year or so when some are actually on the street. That is, if they are still running.

uk sales which mean about as much as a hay penny would be if you tried to buy something with it. the reason being that car cant legaly be driven in uk and us w/o changing anything. q45 didnt have a turbo offered by dealerships it was a v8 but not a performance car. a luxury car, so scratch that statement. and they dropped the skyline name like a bad habbit(bad market move for enthusiasts). us emissions is a whole different ball game and you cant expect something built to perform in japanese emissions standards to match the us standards. completely different situation between us and jap emissions(many people in a small area vs way more people in bigger areas with multiple kinds of emissions).

First off the skyline is horribly underratted, there are shops that have seen 470 to the wheels stock, which is about 550 at the crank. The skyline v-spec is already in the making said to be lighter and with more hp, thats the one the ZR-1 has to watch out for. Also whoever said you think it will do well because it is a tuner car, WRONG. Nissan is making it an untuner car, no shop has been able to crack the ecu yet, some places have reported that it will throw codes if you change the rims, thats how untuner nissan is making this car. Also the whole reason everyone wanted skylines was because of AWD which this one has but also because the RB blocks are damn near unbreakable. The VQ blocks not soo much, the most i have ever seen a vq block handle is 900-1000hp at the crank and the usually wont last long there, the RBs were taken up to 1600 and 1600hp setups on those blocks can be maintained longer.

470 to the wheels would explain its numbers much better!!! ...y would nissan ONLY claim 480hp then? dosnt even make sense to me..and dosnt the govt had to be present for engine dynos of all new cars being sold in the us?? isnt that y many car manufacters had to change there hp claims a few yrs ago?

We're getting way off topic here, if you want to talk about foreign vehicles, go to their forums.

True it is off topic big time now...Plus you can't just make up hp numbers that are 100hp off.
Corvette V Skyline people, I think the corvette was jipped IMO

Unbeliveable how some troll will always find their way into these threads and defend a pile of shit like the Nissan Skyline like they built the damn car themselves. And all on LS1.com, simply amazing.
You couldn't pay me to own one of those pieces of crap. Lets see, 4000+lbs, ugly as sin, sounds like feces, V6, automatic. For that much money I'll stick to a Corvette, and murder GT-R's on the street. Hell, even a GT500 is a much nicer car, and it even weighs less and has more power - for half the price.

The Gt500 has 500hp, which like i said the GTR is making 520 or so, the GTR is 3800-3900lbs, the gt500 is over 4k, the skyline would shit all over the gt500 on straights and turns. I dont know why you would even bring up that car. Also the gt500 fully loaded is 56k the skyline is 70k, not double. Im not defending the skyline i love the z06 and would take it over the skyline but to say the skyline isnt a fast car is just wrong. Them being only auto is just wrong but maybe the spec v with have a 6 speed. Also the spec v is supposed to be 3700lbs with almost 600hp is what the rumors are saying. That 470awhp that i mentioned is on 10psi of boost, this car once they crack the ECU will be putting down 530-550 to twheels with bolt ons and a good tune, but most people who can afford the car can just buy a stand alone.
