I know you guys don't want to hear this but I also read somewhere (Road & Track maybe?) that next year Nissan is going to be releasing a GT-R V Spec that is going to be a lot lighter (carbon fiber) and more powerful. I would expect this version to be compared with the ZR-1 and to a lesser degree the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Horsepower is getting out of control right now. My 320whp sure is fun but just about anything new is rolling off the showroom floors with lots more. It is truly the golden age of automobiles! Once CAFE regs start being implimented we won't be seeing these kinds of cars anymore. The trend will probably go towards the Lotus philosophy of small, lightweight, and 200bhp if we are lucky. Everything fast will be FI. Not to say that's entirely bad but we sure as $hit won't see big cube N/A motors.

It has nothing to do with honda...It has to do with government. Chevrolet is also a leader in technology, no one admits it, but they are. Production vehicles, what's Honda's most powerful car ever???

And that's exactly the problem with the mentality here. It's not all about the power. The NSX was way ahead of its time. On a track the NSX OWNED. Sure it lacked the power that Motown is famous for but that's why there's turbo and S/C kits for it

Is it a surprise that the fastest car around Tsukuba Circuit EVARR is an S2000?

Wal-Mart is the world's largest retailer for a reason... they sell shitty cheap junk that anyone can afford! The smallblock Chevy v8 has been critically acclaimed as the best ever almost since its inception as its reliability and power are simply without equal for the price.

You can make anything fast these days.. this is little more than a matter of tast when you get right down to it. Sorry I prefer a 625 hp supercharged 7.0l v8 to a weedwacker and a 20 lb car.

And what pride do you get from going fast in a straight line? It doesn't exactly take an engineering degree to create a straight line monster. A track (NOT DRAG) is the true test of a car. Do you see Ferraris only racing in a straight line? What about Formula one? This is why domestics and their owners get a bad rep...
    I smell a troll.

Btw, troll: I rarely drag race, but I love a good run down/up a mountain road. I'm American too.

Because Japanese automakers don't need that much displacement to achieve their desired power levels. It's called fine tuning people...

What's your point? The GT-R will spank a Z06 up and down any mountain road and hang with it at the 1/4 strips all day long. And they are indeed in the same price range. Why even bring up the ZR1??

It's been said before by numerous publications, the GT-R is the most exotic production vehicle under 150K period. Even compared to a 977 turbo, the GT-R is deemed to be the more exotic of the two. There's a reason why the GT-R lineage is LEGENDARY. The R32, 33, and 34 were THE BEST cars to happen in Japan at the time. Nothing in its price range could touch it, and with ample tuning, it was supercar status.

And GM is the world's largest automaker since 1931. I guess you should apply your Wal-Mart theory there as well.

Might as well point out that the skyline is an automatic again, and the Z06, which IMO still whoops it has been out for 3 years. 3 years the skyline has been ATTEMPTING to out do it. Sorry for you, but this means GM is at least 3 years ahead of your precious imports

Again with the skylines. i have yet to see a skyline officially tagged on this car all that i have seen is GT-R and GT-R VSPEC, No skylines. no skyline tags = no skyline. it is a GT-R. and as far as if nissan and honda build performance v8s its never happened and realistically will never happen... EVER. too many people in japan driving for them to even consider putting out a performance v8. the reason being EMISSIONS IN JAPAN ARE REDICULOUSLY STRICT. the western hemisphere, which is notorious for v8s because of ford gm and mopar, is unfortunately leaning towards the drop of performance cars, which save for regals and grand prix, are made of 8+ cylinders. and just so you know joe the regals that i refer to are called grand nationals and/or gnx's which are turbo v6's. so sorry to ruin your "what if?" party, and let you know that no one SHOULD think about performance v8s from japan.

P.S. GM uses union workers to build there plants so dont mix gm and wal-mart as if they are the same, unless you like being seen as retarded. now if you were to mention toyota with wal-mart that is totally different. and i will end this rant with a well phrased quote from the people who died and brought you the all mighty weekend that every one loves so much (union workers) "Learn a Union Trade or remain Underpaid!!!"

i like how the nissan was compared to the zr1 because neither car is currently for sale and the z06 which is currently for sale is the flagship of power for under 100k. and the zr1 will start at around 100k so the gtr will be beaten by its very own weapon... forced induction. so go ahead and

This is what I was responding to - I never claimed that since GM is the world's largest auto manufacturer they are better than anyone else... I think the quality of some of their products is quite able to defend its own reputation and I dislike some of their other products quite profoundly but the consistency here is that I am not claiming that since GM built the vette or the f-body the product is bad ass; I'm rather defending the manufacturer based on the virtues of the product. Which is pretty tough to do if you're trying to defend Honda in anything other than motorcycles and weedwhackers.

C'mon everyone knows that it is a skyline. It may not be officially dubbed one, but that's what it is, a new age skyline...Either way I don't care about that. Whole point to this is that I doubt automakers columns sometimes. I think they always choose the new vehicle as best regardless of if it really is. based on the performance specs, it looks to me like it was lack of skill behind the wheel leading to the race course victory for r34... IMO

Boy is there a lot of misinformation here. You guys really need to explore the outside world. Anybody that knows anything knows that a GT-R is a skyline. Have you ever seen an Altima GT-R? What about a Sentra GT-R? No...GT-R's have always and will always be SKYLINES. I wonder why they call it an R35... Hm... maybe it's because Skyline chassis codes start with the letter "R"?? Hence the previous Skylines being dubbed R32, R33, R34, etc...

The US has THE strictest emissions requirements. Do your homework again bub. Why do you think the Lancer took so long to get over here? Why do you think previous Skylines never made it as well? Not to mention turbocharged SR engines...

Japan never going to build a performance V8? Again, please, crawl out from under whatever haystack you've been living under for the last 5 years. Last time I checked, it was OLD NEWS that Toyota has a wildcard up their sleeve with regard to a vehicle utilizing an engine that contains MORE than 6 cylinders... (V8 anyone??) And I suppose you've never seen a turbocharged Q45 now have you?

It is for sale. I saw one at a local car meet over a month ago. Would you like pictures? Maybe you missed the review of the GT-R by the 911 GT3 owner... Granted, it's in the UK, but it's a nice little read

Given that perspective, a GT-R should be even more desirable. I'd much rather have 400+whp going to all four wheels than just the rears, not to mention the tech slushbox. Did we forget that the GT-R's interior owns GM's and it's got four seats? The advantages of the GT-R would shine even on the street...possibly moreso...

it's not that underrated. it's not faster. in no way is it. factory factory the zo6 is faster. the zo6 also is more mod friendly than a gtr (which is a skyline r35) the gtr cannot be modded without throwing codes out the ass. You can't even change the wheels without going to the dealership and getting them to put them on for you. if you even do a cold air intake on it it throws a code and restricts the motor and won't let you pass emissions. When you buy it, you are buying it. not something you can make better, not a car that could be tweaked for more, you are buying it

I have a budy over at toyota that has released to me that there is going to be a V10 coming out in the near future. The car they are putting it is weighs as much as an is250 and is a four door like the is250. the actually name of the car is is-f. it will be one of the fastest cars on the road and the guy who told me about it is scared that he is one of the people responsible for test driving it 6 months before its street release(he gets it for 2 weeks and is allowed to drive it all he wants and toyota pays for it all, he has to review it after that, he is bringing it out to the lot for us to drule over when he gets it)

Underrated as in, from the factory. It is 480hp on paper, yet puts down wheel horsepower levels in the mid-400s. Given the typical 25% drivetrain loss w/ AWD cars (especially auto), well...need I say more?

    Again,

It's in this month's issue of C&D being tested against the 4 door M3. It is a v8 BTW, not a V10. Shows how much your "budy over at toyota" knows

Can we all educate ourselves a bit more please?
