How much gas LS1 burns while idling per 1 hour?
Does anyone know? Anyone knows a link where it was tested?
Thanks

interesting question i have wondered myself, not specifically the ls1 though, jus any engine. i think it burns so lil it would be enough to get in a twist over. its certainly a waste though. and its not good for keeping the carbon content low on you top end of your engine. if you were to idle that long i recommend some WOT afterwards, and a couple passes up the highway.

I am debating in other forum about that. One guy claims that a 2 liter engine consumes 3 times less than lets say a 6l corvette engine on idling. I am saying ls2 engines should consume arround 2 times more, but not 3, so I need to prove that

I've heard that starting your engine uses as much gas as idling for 30 seconds. So if you're going to sit for more than 30 seconds, turn off your engine. Other than that, I dont know.

If your idle is at 700 rpm or less under 0 load, I can't imagine it using very much gas. Maybe 1 gallon every 2.5 hours? I don't know.

On vacation last year i got in a jam on I-71, took an hour to cover 1 mile, over all on a 1000 mile trip my mileage dropped exactly 1mpg from 27.0 to 26.0. some smart mathematician should be able to figure how much extra gas I burned. The DIC on my Corvette has proven to be quite accurate.
