Thud Thud Thud Thud/ Where is this noise?
Alright, I will start this off by saying last year I bottomed out... badly. Ever since then I would get a very intermittent THUD THUD. It is/was right under my feet. Well winter came and I didnt mess with it.
Now, a few days ago I went out logging, I ripped 1st gear, caught 2nd gear and ripped that and then just stuck it in 3rd. Then.... THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD. It is VERY consistent, and is directly related to how fast my tires are spinning... ie, how fast the car is moving. If Im just sitting in neutral... It doesnt make the noise. So, I put the car up on four jack stands and put it in 1st gear. When your in the car you can here it / feel it. I go below and the exhaust is so loud I cant hear anything. Still increase with speed. Could the DS be badly off balance causing this?
I then removed my driveshaft and the stupid driveshaft safety loop. I initally thought U joints. Well, they both seem perfect, no slop. So I put the car in drive, with no Driveshaft and I cant hear or feel a thud thud thud thud.
It appears something is rubbing/hitting my DS right here!
Heres the crossmember.
I had thought the TQ had come loose, but it does not look like it has. Since I had the car in gear with no DS and the noise did not re-appear I am forced to think its the driveshaft. Take it somehere to get it balanced? Buy a new DS? Buy a steel DS? Also, When this happened all my lights came on. LOW TRAC, ABS INOP, AND BRAKE. The LOW TRAC started when I bottomed out last year. Then this year the other two lights started coming on... whenever they wanted to. Anyone have any ideas about that? Heres a short video I took of the DS.

Sure seems like a driveshaft problem. Looks like something is rubbing right across the DS balance weight. It even looks like its starting wear the weight away. Could that be the rapid thud noise?

Thats what I saw. The custom 4" exhaust goes right next to that point. You can see where they had to push the exhaust in to make it clear. It is starting to wear into the weight. Im hoping this is the thudthudthud. I might take it somehwere to check thr balance or order a new one/used one.

if the pipe is up against the DS, then that weight would slap up against it everytime it came around....makes sense to me

ahh yeah it makes sense. Maybe you bottomed out on the exhaust pipe and bent/pushed it closer to the driveshaft. If the DS was bent, it should vibrate all the time.

Damm I know exactly how you feel, I had a thread like this several months back and I had a very similar problem. I cracked my carrier which was causing a thud all the time and caused my car to somewhat buck when I was moving. Sorry to see that man. I upgraded to a 9" so Im hoping I wont have any more problems like that
