ASR Trouble Code Question for the pros
Ok well here is where I am at, My "ASR OFF" light is always on and the asr switch does nothing. Had my buddy who is a mechanic hook up his super expensive diagnostic computer and found the following #'s and info -
C1214, C1215, C1216, C1217 - All of them said something like this "Electric Brake Control Relay Circuit Open", "Always Active", etc
Where is this brake control relay located? Would this be as simple as trying a new relay or something of the sorts? I am trying to use my factory service manual with no luck. Where is this relay at or what should I do next? Thanks for the help.

I noticed that while looking them up in my manuals. They were from his huge pcm reader thing. I am just curious as to where these relays would be. I know the numbers might be wrong, they might have been a listing of how many times the code was actually thrown. I believe it runs a test on each startup on the system. Where can I find the relays though and check/change them out. Also even a ground for the system, where would that be? Thanks

Thanks for your help. He said it would have said if a speed sensor would have been the issue. It kept saying something like I said in the earlier post, relay issue, ground...

Can somebody who has dealt with this system tell me if any relays exist in it?

Interesting, so technically it could possibly be the entire ebtcm...
Would the abs be having issues too if the whole control module was broken? How is it just limited to the asr? I know u need the codes, but I'm just curious about this...Last edited by aerojt; 03-24-2009 at 01:31 PM.

Is there a box under our car that runs this system? I know the one under the hood, but what does this drawing represent? Thanks!

1 is your ABSpump/ECBM computer
2 is mounting bracket
3 could possibly be SDM but i am unsure
4 & 5 are speed sensor harnesses
the EBCM/BPMV electronic brake control module/brake pressure modulating valve
is the brain and fluid control , and is vehicle specific. to a point.
how long has the ASR not worked?
have you done any work on the abs or the rear end latly?
is this the original ABS/ASR setup on car? ie.. no mods?
is the ABS light on as well? or just asr off?
nuff questions for now

The abs/asr system is all stock, no changes. I have not done any work anywhere recently. The "ASR OFF" light kicked on last year before I put it away for the winter, its been on for about 1 week of driving this year. It has never gone off then come back on, its just been always on since the problem started. The "ASR OFF" light is the only one that is on, no abs lights or check engine lights.

Disconnect the wire plug from the back of your ASR switch and then plug it back in to see if that corrects the problem.............

sounds like you have a problem in the EBCM
double check your fuses and the connections at the abs unit under the hood
if all look good you probly need a EBCM
GM wants huge $$$ for one
i got one off EBAY for a F-body junkyeard and paid like 50$ ,worked fine for 2 yrs untill i sold the car
but you have to find an ebcm for your yr w/ASR . no hard, just have search a little
