i would never go back to a y pipe lol
i bought my setup off a 03 cobra and modified it myself to fit my car, costed only 200
Great pics. I could use this when I get my done.
good thread.
ya gotta dump it out if you have a camaro imo. if they made a valance similar to the t/a's i think the camaros would look better with full exhaust and tips but sadly, i prefer dumped. not to say tips look bad, just not my style.
i envy all who have cme.....
my outlook is, the less piping, lighter weight, and weight is all that matters (to this 19 year old)
td ftw.
i would like true duals lol
Yeah, they look a LOT better on Camaros due to the fact that there are no "notches" cut out of the bumper cover...
You get this....

But I actually like the look.. just lots don't.
exactly my point. you bastard t/a owners just get all the perks dont ya. :jk:
seriously though, how hard would it have been to make a bit of a valance for my z???
the general has failed me. :sulk:
change my vote to a hell yes woo hoo. Just picked up a tsp system will be installing soon. I paid 350 shipped.
LOl on my last fbody a 98 z28 i had true duals but the pipes no shit went down to about an inch and a half over the axle lol.......of coarse with no mufflers.........it sounded good but was RESTRICTIVE AS SHIT! lol
love my TD's but instead of running the Sweet Thunder resonators, im running SLP LM resonators...one loud mean SOB...
i havent retuned the car yet so im still at 444/395...
Just go over the axle. :yup:

mr luos, did you just get your pipes made from the exhaust shop? i don't mean the muffler or the headers.. the 3" pipe or w/e size you said you had.. because i was looking around and the only true dual catback i've seen was 900$.. i'm sure if you had it made by the exhaust shop it would be a lot cheaper.. right?
It is custom. Done by a local shop.
$600 plus mufflers.
Not mandrel bent though.
where did you get your cutouts for that price? maybe i'm looking at the wrong thing.. but what i was looking at cost around $400.. Also, is there a big diff between the magnaflow mufflers.. i was looking at their site and they had a LOT of options.. i want one w/ dual tips but not sure which is best.. can anybody help me?
I got my cutouts shipped here for $70. They aren't the electric ones.
My mufflers are Magnaflow 5x8's. Offset.
ohh ok that must be why :)
nope i wish i had True duals!
how much more do you think an x pipe would weigh compared to a y pipe?
Hell yeah. Mrr23 dynoed a 20rwhp gain going to Bassani true duals over his catback, still using factory manifolds. The Bassani yielded even more power than the cutout http://www.stealthram.com/bassanidualexhaust.htm . The extra 20HP is about what a set of headers adds, and when combined with headers will provide even more power.
what's better.. a custom true dual or bassani?
Whichever is cheaper. :yup:
I believe the Bassani is over the axle, so it would be something you could install yourself with basic tools.
well the bassani costs like 900 doesnt' it? also its routed a different way right? if you have a custom you can run two pipes where the orginal Y pipe was and the bassani is different i think..
Vinci Performance did the install and dyno if I remember right. Contact Mrr23 here. Here's his performance & pics link http://www.stealthram.com/bassanidualexhaust.htm . Here's his webpage http://www.stealthram.com/2000pontiacformula.html and http://www.stealthram.com/1999pontiacformula.html . I installed my own, took 2 hours with a buddy and a case of beer.
$779 delivered is what I paid. I couldn't find an exhaust shop to run true duals over axle. Everyone wanted to go under or dump. Considering the gains over a catback I felt the extra cash was well worth it, and still feel very strongly that this was my best mod so far.
Like I said before, for someone considering a catback and headers, the bassani is comparable in cost and power even using the stock manifolds. It allows headers to be added for even more gains later.
is going over the axle better than going under? Also does the bassani come with mufflers and everything or is it just the x pipe?
I think so. Certainly appears more stock. Bassani includes all hangers, muffler, pipes, x-pipe, a torque bump stop, and even the anti-sieze. It bolts right to the cats on 00-02 F-bodies. All you need is a sawsall to remove the old pipes, a rubber mallet, and a socket set.
Where did you get the bassani for $799 dlvd? I like everything about it except the way the rh tail pipe swings back aound behind the muffler...anyone have a sound clip? What about for us 1999 owners?
yeah a sound clip would be nice.. is it possible to remove the cats w/ the bassani? also what is anti-sieze?
A compound (paste) that you put on bolts that you dont want to freeze up...Quote:
also what is anti-sieze?
oh ok thanks
The anti-sieze is for the slip fit connections. Bassani installs aft-cat, so removal would require a pipe fabbed up to connect it to headers or manifolds without cats.
Here's a Bassani clip I made right after install on stock cam, cats & manifolds: http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/c...nt=Bassani.flv
I've since added headers and high flow cats, and it is a bit louder.
Mrr23 has 2 clips, for a 99 and for a 00:

http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...l/DSCF0034.AVI
fyi, for whatever reason bassani says theirs will not fit a 1999 nor do they make one :( I assume the difference is in the cat's configuration...? I wanted this because we have no really good shops in my area that do this type of custom work...
The 00-02 cats are different than the 98-99s. Mrr23 had an exhaust shop fab up the connection. Shouldn't be a big deal. It's only where it bolts to the cats, the rest is the same. If you intended to have someone else do the install, then their install price probably wouldn't be affected. Some people have swapped to the 00-02 cats. I'd just get a fabbed connector. Any shop can do that. The rest of the system is what you're really buying anyway (2.5 TD overaxle w/x-pipe and 3" dual exit slash tips).
I've got GMMG true's on mine with straight pipes all the way to the axle then mandrel bent and out the back! I put down 313/337 but that was at 11.2 AFR, the fella's at JBA said I'd easily pick up 15rwhp or more with the right mixture and I definitely feels like I got that or more since I used my data log tables and had it retuned.
give me a day or two and i'll have 'em up for ya!
I have read just about all this thread, and I am still unsure which to go with for my setup. Seems like true duals are louder and a y pipe with a cut out will make more power. Whats the difference between y pipe w/ cutout and TD with two cutouts? I want it noticably loud, but creating power at the same time. Im open to any suggestions.
For the most part, dual cutouts will not make more power.
Duals > y-pipe for power.
If the duals are done correctly, they are worth 15-20RWHP over a y-pipe setup.
I am realy considering Pacesetters or SS Chrome auto headers. Then either a Y to single all the way with a cutout. Or Headers to X pipe. Just not sure yet. I do have to have cats though.
I have QTP LT's into a 2-1/2" system which consists of an X-pipe into Magnaflow mufflers dumped at the axle. It's not too loud and it feels stronger than what I had before.
I agree. Especially since we do not have much clearance to work with. Although, tests have shown that dual cut-outs directly after an X-pipe will make more power than if they were before. But, that aside, this is not practical with our cars unless you wanna drag your exhaust everywhere!
:hide: Ha!
Well, you are right, but that's unless you have as much power as you do!
My car is slow though. :dunno:

what do you guys think of this? below the axle i would imagine.
Love my TD's. Simple/cheap setup with great power gains and sound. 2.5" Dynomax Bullets with Summit Xpipe dumped....you can buy this setup new from summit for like 160 or so...
Here is a short sound clip...

P.S. If ya still want tips you could always just fabricate something like i did so the rear bumper has tips in the openings
So... what is the name of the shop that did your exhaust?
....2 yr. thread back from the dead??
Was probably using the search feature that people would've bitched at him for had he just made a new thread. Didn't know info had an expiration date.
^^You replied to his reply almost a year late lol
That's because I used the search feature....now its obviously in circulation still.
ebay headers, 220$ umi adjustable panhard bar and relocation kit. idk maybe 300?? not too sure, magnaflow x pipe 80$ 2 magnaflow bullets 160 for 2. 3inch all the way back 215$ for labor
i just bought a set of custom true duals that go all the way out the back, for those of you who had a shop install them for you how much did it cost and what ballpark figure am I looking at?
it cost me 215 in labor
just switched mine up. true duals (no x) to SLP LM1's shooting out before the rear end
yea, me and him kinda know each other so he cut me a deal, took us 7 hours cuz his pipe bender isnt the best.
Isnt the bassani system 3 inch pipes?
I am kinda stuck on tue duals and I have no Idea how....
Bassani is out to the back i just need shocks and springs to finish my suspension.
its not too hard to get 3inch duals over axle, get panhard bar relocation kit and youll be good. its tight for sure but its possilbe hell i have and everyone that has them over axle has to. I also got mandrel bent 90 degree bends to put up there and the work great. ill try and post some pics sometime soon i been needing to
Yeah i wanted to do that on my car and the guy that does my exhaust said no since my car is lowered.
i plan on lowering mine my clearance is prett good right now, not the best but it wont be daily driven.
i just got mine on yesterday, 3in tsp ORX going into a custom made catback out the back with 4in dual/dual tips and a moroso spiral flow muffler on each side right before the tips. I love the tone, deep, no rasp, just pure rumble with no drone. Very classy sounding. But sadly it's much quieter than my stock y pipe setup with just a chopped off catback and glasspack muffler. Should I just replace the mufflers with 3in pipes or is there a muffler you guys would reccomend if I want it louder?
pics please haha I really need Ideas
lead.......stock shocks....springs.......LCAs........panhard....... .we need to talk........but i will trade ya my borla for your duals :)
250 for 3 in pipe to the x-pipe and i run glasspacks
