Planning out the Cam install parts.
Alright, this winter the 6.0 HAS to get a cam. Its crying with that stock cam. I have some minor questions I know some of you can shed some light on.
The cam Im probably going with is the 233/239, .595"/.603" on a 114 or the Torqer V.2 on a 114. Anyone with different ideas can put them out there.
Engine is a LQ4 6.0 with Ported 862 heads and FAST 92 PTM 92 full exhaust.
1st, Do you think it is worth while changing the crank and cam gear out for the LS2? I dont know if mine is worn but I can pick up a brand new LS2 timing set for 72 bucks. Should I save some cash and just get the LS2 chain?
2nd, Would you go with the crane or PRC spring kit?
3rd, what oil pump are most running? Ported LS6?
4th, I cant see not spending 100$ on new LS7 lifters. I have heard they arnt much better the Stock, but are they worth buying IYO?
And, what did your guys'gals cam swap run you total? Cam, dual springs, TI retainers, Locks, seal, seats, PR's, oil pump, timing chain, and lifters.
I am planning on running stock rockers. Most of mods in sig below.
Thanks for your opinions or tips guys,Last edited by Hi-Po; 11-03-2008 at 04:34 PM.

What are your plans for the car long term. If you ever plan on boost that 233/239 will do nicely. N/A and some juice either will do it. I like the Torquer 2 on a 112 myself but have seen a good numbers on a 114 also.
72 bucks is cheap for a timing set so I'd do it
I'd go with the PRC springs
Melling Pumps are awesome
If there's a lot of miles on that block I wouldn't bother with lifters unless you see pitting on the stock cam lobes.

The car will never see forced induction.
Long term goals with the engine is 408-412 with different heads obviously. But being real with myself I realize that will be awhile. This cam will free up a ton of HP.
The car is driven on the street all the time. Cam must be great for the street, and I really dont want a huge huge rumble. Peak numbers dont mean much to me. I like hearing those on other peoples car. Power under the curve is important to me, the car saw 6000 miles just this summer. I drive her. (I also DD my 06 Grand prix, the TA just gets the beating's!)
The engine itself (block, rotating assembly) only has roughly 10000 miles on it. Ill have to check into the Melling pumps. Hopefully under 200 bucks. You dont think this cam would do a 6.0 with nice 5.3 heads on it well? I called comp and I cant remember what they recommended.. but this was close. The my tuner said something higher. I do not want to spin this past 6400 rpm really. Low end torque is great, and Im adicted to it with the setup I have right now. Stock truck cam is nothing but torque down low in a good gear.
I was also wondering about dropping the pan and adding some ARP CR bolts. I am not afraid of doing that install, done it a few times on other engines. Would that even be worth it and not spin it high? I have not checked on those prices though. I definitely have a budget on this. Shitty but true.

If the long term plans are a 408....
Leave the cam the way it is....for now.

There is no doubt the plan is 408, but shit, The short block is already out of my budget, then factor in stage III heads, cam, nickel and dimes and Im way out of budget(for quite awhile). I think with just a cam ad my other mods, This car could hit high-mid 11's easy. You cant tell me you would leave the stocker in there Luos, that fucker would be ripped out of it in a heart beat! This car would do me right for awhile I think with a cam upgrade. If you want to fund my 408, then thats what I will do, sound good?

I ain't funding shit.
Unless it is from ATI and going on Slowass.
I understand your want for a better cam...
I regret a LOT of my modding before the stroker. Bunch of stuff wasn't able to swap over, or wasn't worth swapping over. Like my cam.
236/240 609/613 113 if you must.

That spec Luos suggested would do nicely

Well, I finally got my cam spec'd out for me. Re-reading it, Luos hit the duration numbers right on the head.
236/240 at .050 ... .578 .589
110 ICL and on a 114 LSA. --- Comp Cam.
Some further updates since then... The heads are a 56 CC chamber.
Whats everyone's opinions on this cam? Think it will squeeze in there with enough PTV clearance on a 56 CC head? The guy im talking to who used to work at W2W said he has an almost exact set-up right now with this same exact cam. LQ4, Lingenfelter 56cc heads, and this 236/240 cam. Said it fit fine, but couldn't give me numbers on the clearance's. He claims to have used this cam for years and makes very nice numbers.
What yall think?

Dude, you hit the nail on the head!!! Just seemed funny to me that the cam specs I waited for where almost the same as the ones you put out there. The lift is lower, but kinda has to be with my heads.
You dont think this cam will have any clearance issues with these small chamber heads?
I will be making an order here in the next few days. Cam and install goods, gears, and UD pulley. SHould net me the HP I need till the 400ci+ comes my way.
Does anyone have anything bad to say about UD pulley's? The guy who got my cam specced out recommended against it. I thought different.
Main question is the cam being good for my application though.
