Look at post 14 for the correct way to install the lid.

Correct airlid instalation and easy fix to keep clips down
I actually couldnt get the lip into the box, the stripping must have been too thick. If you otic in the frontal shot, there is weatherstipping in the middle between the lid and the box. I followed the original pix from Justins pix as an example, but my 'strip is more "solid" than his was. I am going to try a thinner weatherstrip now on it. I am also going to leave a gap in the strip area where the lid comes into direct contact with the box.

    Okay,

I purchased some 3/16" thick weatherstripping and put it in place of the 5/16" weatherstripping. I also gave it room from the lids walls were the grooving is in it. It went on a lot better. Its still a little high, but much better than before. I figure that if I found some 1/8" stripping it would be even better. I buttoned it up fired the engine un and can feel airflow sucking from the filter and not around the sides. Maybe we should make a sticky on how to seal one of these lids up. When I change the air filter I will do a better job and cut the stripping in 45 degree angles. I just wanted to make sure the car was in running order come 6 am tomorrow.

Is the front edge of the lid now BEHIND the lip on the bottom like Scott mentioned?

Yes, the lid is now "low" enough to do so. Its amazing what 1/4 inch less of stripping can do.
