Good for you!
I quit 1/2/07 and it's the hardest thing I've ever done. Haven't had a cigarette since. But, strange how sometimes I still want one.
I've quit a ton of times. Smoked for 28 years. This time I made it stick. I used the gum. I couldn't do it cold turkey....
Stick with it, you'll be glad you did!

Quiting smoking was amazingly hard.
I was very ill and ended up in the hospital for a few days. I have asthma, and it fucked me up. I guess I should say I used to have asthma. It is gone now with a few years behind me.
Anyway, I spent a few days in the white room, got out and lived on "breathing treatments" for probably 8 days. During those 8 days I could barely think about a cigarette. When I got better I wanted one very very badly. Instead, I chewed a thousand peices of gum everyday and had the strongest MG patch known to man strapped on my arm. I had so much nicotine in my system I was sick. I did that for a month and I was ok. Then I just did the gum and a weak MG patch. Then just gum.
Then a few months later tried chewing for some reason. Stupid as fuck. I am completely addicted to nicotine, I dont have any clue on how I will ever quit chewing. I hate it 100%. My GF doesnt like it, but she puts up with it as she herself smokes.
FUCK NICOTINE.

congrats! I have never smoked but I think its a nasty useless habit. Not busting on anyone for doing it, just personal opinion.

COngrats man...they have said that the nicotine addiction is as bad if not worse then cocaine. Do other things to keep your mind off of it. And if it helps put the money that you would normally spend for smokes in a jar and spend it on the car....that will be motivation enough.

I totally get where you're coming from
I still use the gum. I need it! I am still addicted to nicotine...yes I am!
I also have asthma. Was diagnosed at 25 but smoked my little heart out anyway. Used my inhaler all day long etc...
Now, I rarely use my inhaler. Feel a ton better on that front (asthma never goes away...) but, now I gotta quit the damn gum!!! Heh, I'm back up to the 4mg again.
It does suck! I'm going to try and quit the gum this New Years. We'll see

anytime you want a cig, do something that takes your mind off of it, something productive. If you get really fidgety when you need a cig, do some sort of exercise.
I never made the mistake of starting but have obserbed plenty of friends that do smoke and have tried to quit and the only ones that have succeeded and actually stuck to being a non smoker were the people that quit cold turkey.

What I found amazing when I stopped smoking (1.5-2 pack a day habit) is that my sense of smell was dulled to the point that I didn't realize how bad the smell was and how much it permeated everything - curtains, clothes, carpet, everything. It took months to get the smell out of my house.
I can now smell a lit cigarette from quite a ways off. Even a few cars away with the windows up and the AC on in stopped traffic.
Added: I don't like the smell but I'll never critize anybody for indulging unless they bring it up 1st.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 09-12-2008 at 04:00 PM.

It astonishes me that people still smoke. What I love best, since I have an expressive attitude matched with an expressive face, is when I first meet a girl and find out she smokes. I give her that "thats not IN" look and they never forget it. They may not put out that cigarette, but they got the message and it will keep ringing long after the date is over.
