Are my MT ET wearing very badly? Pictures inside.

Alright, I have been running these MT ET streets on the street for about 600 miles now. I am fearing that my 3/4 mile of dirt road driving to get to a paved raod is tearing these tires up. I have played alittle bit on these tires, ie getting alittle sideways, 4000 RPM dumps.

All in all, I think I have been VERY conservative with these tires. I want to save them for the track. Will some of you guys look at these pictures and tell me if they look abnormal, showing signs of wearing to fast? I launched the car 5 times yesterday and that took alot of tread of my tire. A noticable amount putting my finger in the tread. Thanks guys.

You're blistering them from doing dry burnouts.

Pic attached of mine, which have roughly 60 passes on them, and about 2000 or so street miles.

I really haven't actually sat there and done a burnout. Spun the wheels yes, so how do I stop this? I feel I am wasting my tires? Do i just need to take it easier on my tires?

I doubt that a dirt road would put abnormal/premature wear on them. Try a damp burnout, maybe that'll smooth em over. They dont last long in general.

Yea I know that now. So do you guys think I am wasting these tires by driving them on the street. I am really... really trying to find a pair of rims to slap on my street tires. I personally dont like these tires for street driving. I will take my BFG Gforces ANYDAY over these MT ET for everyday street driving. I just dont wanna pay 30 bucks to repeatly re-mount tires!!

I was going by what you said, and what the tire shows. In first post you said you've done 4000 rpm "dumps" and that you launched the car 5 times yesterday...

That's DEFINITELY not wear from a dirt road, nor is it normal wear from driving down the street "normally". I'm on like my 5th set, and haven't had any of them look anything like that, but I also only heat them up in a waterbox at the track, not on the street.

If the car's a daily driver, I'd suggest finding another pair of rims to mount them on, and only bolt them on when headed to the dragstrip. That's what I did when I was running the 17's on stock SS wheels...I could simply swap them if I was headed to a Test & Tune or whatever. Now I'm running the ProStars again, so if I know it's going to be a while before racing again, I swap my stock 17" SS rims back on since I'm not too crazy about wearing out a $400 pair of drag radials driving back and forth to work...No idea what kind of rims you have, but you can surely find a pair that aren't perfect, for a decent price.

These tires only have 800 miles on them. Look at them! There is almost no tread left!

These tires aren't meant to be spun.
Unless you are warming them.

I beat on mine at the track (and a little on the street) and they never looked like that.
I got 35 passes out of a used set. Last 10 passes were with them looking pretty bald.


Finish these off, and pick up some 16" salad shooters, and mount MT radials on those...for track use. Use your current wheels for street tires.

I guess not. I admit, I have spun them. A few times trying to learn a good launch. Live and learn I suppose. Note to self. Dont spin 500$ soft MT's!

Im gonna have to ask, what do you mean salad shooters? Just a 2nd pair of rims? I have been trying to buy a 2nd set of rims for 2 weeks now. People dont PM back usually.

Should I stay with 17's or can I go down to 16's?

LSXheaven has a pair of 16's for me. I didnt know if I wanted 16's though.
