Lincoln Tech
Has anyone ever been to Lincoln Tech? I am thinking about going and just wanted to see what people thought about it if they have ever been.

Yep.
I went to NADC. Nashville auto deisel "college".
Its a good trade school. And bigger company's tend to look at them highly I think.
School is 5 days a week, 8 1/2 hours a day. For about two years. They want you in/out as quickly as possible.
I also took the High Performance Gas engine/heads and dino. That class is a fucking must have if you go to NADC.
I work for Caterpillar now and have been for 2 and 1/2 years. Its ok, but big companies suck ass. Way to many politics and drama clubs. Union 324.
You can make good money starting and work your way up. Also, jobs are very available. Shit Caterpillar called me. I never even dreamed about wrenchin on 150,000 + pound machines. But its almost impossible to be rich doing these jobs. They pay me enough to keep me coming back every day. Thats it. I guess Im saying, make sure its absolutely what you want to do with your life. I have second thoughts almost everyday.

I think that I am going to the one in Indy...I want to do something more along the lines of auto tech then open up my own shop some day. There was one in my town up until about a year ago, the guy just got old, and he always had 20 cars outside. I'm not positive what I want to do yet just looking at some different options.

Yep. Graduated from those guys way back in '85 or so, I work with another tech at Goodyear that graduated from them here in Indy also (1982). We have been with Goodyear over 47 years combined, that must count as something. Also, we have seen other "techs" come and go, and then we thank our education. Non-educated techs have the "smartest" evaluations for what happens to cars! It is many $$$ to go there, tho, I have heard near $30k for a certificate, for about 18 months.

If you plan on being an auto tech for a living. Don't go to lincoln tech, its the worst school out of all the "trade" schools. I recommend going to "votech". If you have any abilities at all, thats what matters. The votech will get you a good primer. Then the real learning begins at your first dealership job. 5 yrs later you discover how much you hate the business when you get assfucked doing warranty work for 5 tenths of an hour when it takes 2 hrs. Then the service writers will piss you off, the manager and owner will piss you off when they tell you they can't give you a raise because you dont make enough "hours". These cars are harder and harder and the people that control your pay are stuck in 1987.
If you cant tell by now im a dealer tech and if you wanna make money i'm warning you. avoid this business. Yes its possible to find a good dealer that pays well, is ran well, and has great people but its a rarity these days. The owners all want to jus get richer and richer and they are cheap as hell. THe dealer i work at has dumpsters piling up with garbage, we ran out of motor oil this week, we dont stock parts. All cause the owner is such a cheap cunt. Fuck being a mechanic. it sucks

^^^ Whew are we bitter or what? I have some hard times where I work, but nothing like what you describe. Also, it sounds more like you don't like dealers than Lincoln Tech. I work on average 37 hours (Mon-Fri) a week and get paid on avereage about 46 hours/week. It's a living.

Have you ever worked at a car dealer and gotten raped doing warranty work? No offense but Im pretty sure you see nothing but cash work at a goodyear. As far as lincoln tech is concerned, every lincoln tech grad i've worked with didnt learn shit there. They learn everything at work. Lincoln tech takes their money and teaches them how GM hei ignition from the 80s works, how to rebuild 1 rear, etc. all really basic shit. The classes are so huge its normally jus one kid that even does the work. Lincoln Tech is approaching 30k for a year now. Better off spent at a real college.
If you've been at the Goodyear for like 20 yrs I also am betting they give you a minimum of 8 to 10 hrs of gravy work a day.

Nope, never worked at a dealer as a mechanic. I worked at a Chevy dealer before Lincoln Tech. So, I have seen warranty hours in the Mitchell labor books and have always been glad I am not a dealer mechanic.
I started Goodyear when I was 26, maybe you need to look for another place of employment?
And yeah, people are usually pretty green coming out of any Tech school, you gotta learn on the job. We have seen many people who work for us part time as they go to LTI and don't even know how to raise a car! I did learn a lot of theory there, also at high school. We have another tech there who has been there 6 months longer than I and you shoud hear some of his theories as to why things work as they do on a car. Or how he explains it to a customer.
We all (3) get about the same hours every week, except I am actually there about 4 hours less per week than them.

bullseye.
i would have to disagree with just about all of those trade schools. including Baron, wyotech, and UTI.
you walk out of there with no degree. a vocational college will do you much better. luckily, i live within district of the #1 automotive college in the country. so, i will spend about $5,000 on my 2 year education, and will have much more experience than the trade school grads.
i am not burnin these trade schools, i am just saying, for the money, there are much different and better options

These schools are not for everybody. They are way expensive. Stuff can go good for you. I think Im doing fine. Im doing just fine with my situation.
When I decided to go, I was younger, dumber, etc. I graduated from high school 1 year early, and started before my senior year even started. I think it was the whole, Im gonna get a jump on everyone, im gonna move 600 miles away from home and party etc. Cant change that!

my advice. Apply everything you learned from the school and DONT be cocky. Absorb everything a good veteran tech is willing to teach you like a sponge. Piss them off and your life will be hell. I've seen it. The real learning begins when a really good A-tech takes you under his wing. One of my best friends is a full master certified tech 38 yrs old, has forgotten more then most will ever know about cars. He's leaving the business because it sucks lol
