PLEASE HELP! ABS Problem if u stagger wheel size??
I am about to buy some C5 vette wheels off of craigslist or possibly trade me ws6 wheels for some, the staggered 5 star 17 & 18"s... then i got this warning from one of the people getting rid of some..
"About 50% of the 4th gen V8 f-bodies have a problem with the offset wheel size. At high speeds the difference in wheele size from front to back will cause the ABS controller to think the front wheels are locked up becuase they aren't spinning as fast and it will cause the ABS to activate...so it can be dangerous when going down the highway."
I have an 02 WS6..anyone know if this will happen to mine or the likely hood of this, i was considering putting taller profile tires on the front to make up the wheel height is it necessary??
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

i don't know the answer but woudn't it look goofy to have a low profile tire on back and standard profile tire on front? maybe if you get the spedometer adjusted to the larger wheels it would do it?

it's not the wheel size. it's the overall tire height. i have the C5 wheels on the wife's car in 17/18.
front tires are 255/40-17 and rears are 285/35-18 both overall tire diameters are the same.Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

I was also concerned about the ABS when I planned to put staggered wheels on my goat. After a lot of research, I decided that 245/40 17's (24.7" dia.) on the front and 275/35 18's (25.6" dia.) on the rear should not cause a problem. I could have played it really safe and used 245/45 17's (25.6" dia.) on the front, but I liked the lower profile 40's. I have not had any problems, even at 150 mph! If you keep the difference in diameters less than one inch, you should be good.

i looked on tire rack and it says the 285/35-18 is 25.9"
and it said the 255/40-17 is 25.1"
the 285/35-18 does 802 revs per mile and the 255/40-17 does 823 revs per mile...should i go for whatever tire size has the closer revs per mile to be safe??
if so the 275/40-17 is 25.7" and does 807 revs per mile..seems to be closer in size and revs per mile...
