If you tear the rearend down, you should really go ahead and rebearing everything while you are there. You absolutely have to re-setup the rearend, which means new pinion seal, new crush sleeve, and various pinion shims, as what is currently pressed on will more than likely not work on any other rearend. Otherwise you will have to remove your current pinion shim from your gears and place it on this pinion as that usually works out to be very close to within spec. You also have to replace the ring gear bolts as they are not to be torqued down twice. Me personally, I would buy a master install kit with shims and everything that way you know you have all parts on hand.
My question is what gears did your rearend have originally? If they were less than 3.23 then these are the "thick" gears designed for series 2 carriers. If they were 3.23 and up, they are the standard series 3 carrier which most V8 f-bodies have.
