Cam timing
So my coworker and his buddy are into fiero's. They really modify these things and it includes modifying supercharged 3800's. His buddy constantly blows up his engine. The last tear down, the engine guy said the aftermarket cam needed to be 'timed' to the engine, not just bolt on the gears and chain. Apparently, with the stock gears and timing marks, the cam was advanced some 17 degrees from where it was supposed to be and cause valve/piston interference. My coworker is now building his new (junk yard) sc 3.8 and he's planning a mild cam with ratio rockers.
I know its not lsx engines but hopefully somebody knows about cam timing. Can someone explain how to do it? Also, I think he said that intense racing has a cam timing gear set with multiple configurations to time the cam. He has not bought a cam yet because hes still researching what to do.
Thanks in advance!
