How many volts in a stun gun do i really need to make it hurt.
Hey, im going to get my dad a stun baton for christmas and they have a very cool one that is 200,000 volts but then i see some around 700,000 to 950,000 volts. If you know about stun guns, how much worse does 800,000 volts feel than say 200,000.
Check out this video, this one is only 200,000 volts but it looks like i need it.

either one will hurt like a fat bitch, but you will still need to hold it against an attackers body for several seconds to incapacitate him. a taser that shoots a probe that sticks into the attackers skin and delivers a continuous shock very similar to the one cops love to use on 80 year old women is available to the public.

While this is in fact true, the amount of amperage delivered through the body is directly related to the amount of voltage pushing it. Since the human body has an EXTREMELY high resistance(ohms) you need an extremely high voltage to actually apply a decent amount of amperage. If the battery is capable of supporting a full amperage drain, then 800k volts will apply 4 times as much amperage as 200k volts. But if you are talking cheapo bullshit ones, then the battery likely wouldn't be able to support the full draw, in which case, yes, the amperage rating would matter.
And if you are curious, Ohms law is as such: Amps = Volts/Ohms (and you can flip that any way you want, IE: Ohms = Volts/Amps etc)
So, 800,000V / 400,000 ohms = 2 amps Which hurts.
The X factor is when the battery/wiring can't support that much of an amperage draw. Which, like I said, is a likely problem if you are buying a cheap one.

I think we need to test this. Do I have any volunteers in the audience?

1/4 amp will kill. Voltage can kill you by short circuiting the body but it is less lethal than amperes.
