    Question about strange rear??

I bought a camaro ss. about 2 months ago and the owner had a strange 12 bolt rear. already assembled. it was installed by F-body central. but I have a question about gear whine. I hear it most at 50-70mph it has 4.10 gears. and have talked to some people and they say its normal some say the rear has to set-up again. I just need some more input. the rear has about 15K miles on it. is it the gears? bearings? also the axle seals are leaking. the car is eqipped with C-clip eliminators. Sodo I need to buy new axle seals and reseal the eliminators. thanks in advance

Seems like a lot of guys with a 12 bolt's and 6 speed's develop gear whine. Also if they are richmond gears they will whine as well.

ive always wondered the whining is due to the wrong weight of rear end oil

I have read that the torque Arm mount design is bad on the 12 bolt causeing the houseing to tweak thus causeing the gears to whine. Many guys running a 6 speed have this problem especially if they take their car to the track.

My Strange 12 bolt with 4:10s screams. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd fix the leaky seals tho. I'm sure Jason at FBC will take care of it for you.

The whine comes from one tooth slipping off and pinging the next tooth. The helical cut gears area supposed to eliminate this. Its the only reason, straight cut ones are a hair more efficient, but many don't like that whine. Most race cars whine because they're performance only. Having the wrong lube usually just burns out the diff plates, but the higher the gear, the higher the heat, the more damage to oil and it dosent work right. most street apps don't need coolers, but if you have 6:10's or something like that (god knows why) you really need a rear cooler.
