Damn Spark Plug Wires!
Alright, I'm in the process of changing my plugs and wires on my 2000 SS. The driver side went smooth and all in all took me about half an hour. Now for the dreaded passenger side. First off it doesn't help that I have ginormous hands. I started with plug 8 since it seems to be the most difficult, after about 30 min of pulling and tugging the stock wire came off of the plug and the rest was cakewalk. (By the way I accomplished this from under the car, I had a clear path to 8 with nothing in the way.) My problem is plugs 2,4 and 6. The damn plug wires DO NOT want to come off. I've tried everything, pulling, twisting, everything! I even lifted the coil packs and removed the air tube connected to the exhaust. What are some suggestions you guys would have for stubborn spark plug wires? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I stick a long screwdriver in there behind teh boot and pull it out, it' takes some force but it should pop off of there. I always remove the coil rail completely, and pulled out the AIR tube when I had AIR. Please don't get pissed and pull on the wire itself

I heard a few guys on here say the stockers were the hardest to pull off? I guess I'm in that same boat?... How long a screw driver would you say I need? I'll give anything a try now. Thanks.

They are much easier to get off the second time if you install them with a little dielectric grease.

I got them finally! Took forever... I made sure to put boot stuff on for next time. It should be way easier then. I had to put a pipe over one of my wrenches to get #6, just couldn't get enough leverage. Other than that everything went smooth. Started her up and she purrs, there's a very noticible change in throttle response.

NGK TR-55's are big if you're NA and TR-6's if you have n2o or FI.

When i was chaning mine, i got so mad i pulled a wire so hard, it broke into 2 peaces. The part of the wire than goes on the coilpack came off but the other end that is connected to the plug was still stuck. I also broke my ECT sensor and it was not fun. My car ran like shit for a week and my friends ford explorer beat me in a race LOL! I decided to shell out the extra $ and get TR55-IX plugs. They are iridium and tend to last longer. I dont wanna keep changing them or have to worry about them cuz we all know hoe much fun it is to change the plugs on our cars.

Really? I always thought the plugs are easy to change on the LS1 F-body. I have never had problems with mine.
Driver side is a breeze,,,,first 3 on passenger side are also easy,,,then the last one is done from underneath the car.
I changed them with manifolds and cats in place,,,,but since I have gone to long tube headers and no cats,,,,I find the plugs even easier to change now.
I find my wifes LT1 more difficult than my LS1,,,,and if you really want busted knuckles,,,,my 454 chevelle,,,with aftermarket aluminum heads that have the exhaust ports raised 1/2 inch,,,so the headers are higher up,,,and they are 2 inch diameter hooker super comps on top of that,,,and the car has factory air conditioning as well. It's a real joy. I have several modified sockets to get the job done.
