Sad sad day for me. The Trans Am finally sits as garage queen...
I knew the day was going to come sooner or later, well it's finally here. The Trans Am has been reduced to a garage queen, and the wife gets her new car while I get to drive the beater, a 2000 Explorer XLT. She picked out a '07 Wolfsburg Jetta, black on black which we got for $270 a month with $1000 down for 36 month lease. After that we will buy a new car...('10 Camaro???) The Jetta is just a holdover til we find something we really like. I am goin gto drive her 1 last time tomorrow, rip up some roads, hit 140+ and do a few burnouts, than the car cover goes on.

I don't see the sad ending here.....keeps the miles off of it and a perfect setting to start tearing into it.

I am not seeing the sad side of this either. Having a beater preserves your baby and you will enjoy the TA that much more when you do drive it.

I know I know, but I DD her 50 miles a day an das much as I enjoy the truck I really do, it's not the TA. Heads are gonna go on along with pulley and LS6 manifold over time, and when I break her out again in a few years I know she will be a headturner. I refuse to be that 40+ year old guy who tells you the story of how he regrets letting go of his first real muscle car. You know the "Oh I had a 70 something Firebird and I sold it, shoulda never let go of it!" or the "I had a a 70 something Mach 1 mustang damn I wish I had kept that car.!" That wont be me, mine is staying here in the family and I will enjoy driving it for the next 50 years God willing

so... why can't you alternate? or use the suv for "family trips" and you can't really use gas as a reason, because paying 270 a month for a new vehicle, that you're not buying is not really off setting the cost of gas... and what's the point of having a nice car, if you don't drive it?

Car has over 80k miles on her, and I don't want to go much further. Everything seems to be falling apart and the wear and tear maintenance is starting to outweigh the cost of driving it. For inspection alone I will be out close to $1000, the Jetta is saving me $350 a year on insurance, and prol' another $20 a week in gas which adds up to $1000 a year. Factor all of that in and further maintenace on the TA down th eline whereas the Jetta is fully covered maintenance wise for the lease, and I will be making out pretty well $$$ wise in the end.

I have had sow as the garage/trailer queen for years now.
When you get one of the new Camaros your suffering will end.

Having an extra car for a DD is a blessing. My company supplies me with a vehicle, so the TA sits in the garage most of the time. I don't see the problem. It's nice not having to worry about transportation when you decide to work on or modify your ride.
