leaking diff seal
just been nosing through some of these threads.
i'm a bit worried now.........
had to change the diff seal on my WS6,hoping to cure the leak it had.its only done 27000 miles, but darn it the damn things still leaks!
it also has a slight whine at 60mph.do i need to change the rear axle yet?
judging by what some of you guys say,am i right in saying the axle is a weak point?

You talking about the pinion seal? How bad is the leak? Mine's been leaking for quite a while w/o any problems, doesn't leak in the driveway after sitting though. Or are you talking about the cover? For the noise if the fluid was changed did they add the GM LSD additive?

Yeah sorry, its the pinion seal that leaks.i used a genuine GM seal and i changed the oil,and i also used the GM lsd additive.its not really giving me any problems,i just think that i may be paranoid 'cos so many people have told me the rear axles are weak on f-body cars.it doesnt lose loads of oil, just i wipe it clean, use the car then its wet with oil again.i guess the underside of the car wont go rusty!!!!

i wouldnt recomend rebuliding it just yet, if your up to it you can change the diff seal, all you need is a turning torque wrench and a new crush sleeve, and also if your car just has the torsen style lsd like most you dont need that additive because there is no clutches in your rear its a worm gear style lsd.
hope that helps but if not your looking at like 200 bucks to have a shop do the seal and have them look at the gear trac to make sure its alright. oh and do you have aftermarket gears?
