speed bumps fucked suspension up
so im drivin a car with 250,000 miles so i guess i had it comin to me....
i hit like 50 speed bumps a day, plus we have shitty roads and all the parking lots are raised and then lowered from the streets so u always have to go like 0.2 miles an hour when exiting a parking lot to avoid bottoming out.
with all of that, and driving such an old car, today i realized i had a problem with the suspension. when i turn the wheel all the way i would hear and feel a bump like my tire popped, then it would pull to the left. i thought i popped a tire, wasnt that... i turned the wheel all the way the other way around and it popped "back" into place i guess... cuz it didnt pull after that.
understand so far? i didnt know wtf it was, so i took it easy and brought it home to have my dad check it out. he explained it to me real quick and i didnt quite understand... supposedly my springs are hitting my tires cuz the spring 'plates??' (that the springs sit on?) broke. somethin like that... if anyone knows what im talkin about (and could correct me on the terminology) how hard/expensive is it to fix this problem?
i relaly would not want to spend money fixing this car up, as the repairs would probably be worth more than the car... if we can do it ourselves itd be great. anyone know what i need to buy/do????

first off what kind of car? Guessing f body but what year, generation, motor we need details please. The spring plate to me sounds like either a) the top spring purcahse that holds the spsring in as corroded out or it coub the bottom one on the a-arm, or b) your tie rod ends are toast

i just got more info on this. the suspension spring on my left front wheel broke thru the bushing, and the end of it is sharp and pointing at the side of my tire. these springs are compressed at like 800lb, and the end of it is broken so its pretty sharp. it will for sure puncture a tire eventually. so i guess my dad just ordered the new parts for it and theyre pretty expensive...
fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that's the shitty part of having a beater, you pay a low price, but then it just breaks and costs more than it's worth to fix. you could alway go to a pick-a part or try ebay and get some used parts.

I know the pains of a beater well, my DD truck has tuned into that and need what I paid for it in body work.
