Since a brand new tranny is only about $3600 plus a clutch which is about $400 for a totall of $4000 and they want $3k for just a rebuild. Id say yeah your getting screwed.

What makes you think you need a new flywheel. You don't just replace it when you need a new clutch.

yeah i agree. it wont be that fucked up i wouldnt think. and you can get them resurfaced for way less than a replacement. and they want 3 grand for a rebuild with oem components. get your car to another shop. asap.
they better be putting in a spec clutch set up or something for 3 grand. thats insane!!!

Yeah unless your flywheel is chattering I would tell them to resurface them.

..for that kind of money..check e-bay, there are shops that specialize in ls1 stuff...you could pick up a tranny for about 5 to 6 hundred...that will leave you with funds for other improvments...r and r a tranny.....maybe 4 hours in a qualified shop...that's a guess but should be in the ball park...good luck

Thanks all. Ya I thought that was outrageous. My synchro in 5th has been giving me probs for awhile. But the clutch hasn't been slipping at all. The throwout bearing was making a little noise but chirps 1st thru 4th.

When in 5th, the gear shift would move to and fro depending on throttle. Felt like it was about to pop out of gear. Took a long trip the other day and it got pretty hot. Stuck in 5th gear when I downshifted and lots of shearing sounds trying to get it out. Then once I made it home it just got worse and wouldn't even go into any gear. They told me the flywheel was in really bad shape and would show it to me even though I told them just to resurface it.

I got a quote from two shops - $1,700 for a tranny. They told me $300 to put it in. A clutch I can get for like $350 and have the flywheel resurfaced. They are charging me $380 for labor whether I use them or not. DANG!
