160 Degree T-Stat?
It may have been discussed to death and I missed it, but is it worth putting in a 160 T-Stat without reprograming the engine computer? I plan on doing some maintainance this spring and since I will be flushing the system, I was going to put a new T-Stat at that time. Curious to what everyone's thoughts are...

actually interesting for me too, especially in combination with a hypertech programmer.

PCM controls when the fans come on, not the thermostat - a 160 just pivots at a lower temp. Personally I'd keep the stock thermostat, and stay away from Hypertech tuning unless it'll just let you reset fan temps independently. That being said I have a 160 and have the fan temps set really low - 184/175 and 194/185.

Black on Black- 2000 Camaro SS M6
i had a 160 degree stat and didnt know about the CPU for a while until a tuner did my car. I had the CPU reprogramed, and also had the fans kick in at a lower temp. If you plan on having your car reprogrammed eventually you might as well change it now anyways. that way you dont have to do it later. just my opinion. good luck.

I have a 160 degree T-stat and the Hypertech programmer. I didn't notice any power differance from the T-stat. But I do here my fans come on maybe once every two weeks.
