Switching to a T rex
Hey guys like the title says I am thinking of switching from the Comp 224 cam the to T rex. What kind of gains do you think I will see. Right now I am putting out 410 whp. The car has patriot stage 2 ls6 heads and all the supporting mods. Just wondering how much of a gain I should expect if I decide to go through with this.

I think you should see at least a 40 hp difference in the upper rpm range with the t rex upgrade. Plus thunder racing advertises that cam to work with stock piston to valve clearance but recommends checking if you have aftermarket heads with a different height or with thinner head gaskets. You mentioned you have patriot heads you may want to consult to see if they have the same installed height but if there is any doubt better to pull the heads and check with the old clay method just to be safe.

Patriot welds up their chambers they do not mill down like other head companies do. I would call Patriot Performance and talk to Gunnar to make sure. also a key part that you have left out is if you have the 64cc or the 59cc chambers. call them, and they will be able to set you in the right direction. regardless i would run nothing less that .100" of piston to valve clearance, so if that means you need to flycut after a clay test, i would for peace of mind...
