how to remove auto shift knob?

ive asked this on the automatic transmission page without any luck so far, so does anyone here know how to remove an automatic shifter knob on a trans am?

On my camaro there was a metal clip shaped like a "U" that is pushed thru the leather from the back (radio side) and you have to pry it out and then just slip the knob off. I did it to install a billet knob.

Yeah, it's the same - I have a Firebird handle on mine. It's easier to see/remove if you turn the key on and put the shifter in first.

what did you use on the firebird handle to remove the clip? would needle nose plyers work?, flathead screwdriver?

A small flat head screwriver to pry the clip out a little, then needle nose plyers for the rest of the way if needed.

i got the clip out easy enough...launched out and bounced around...but now what? it seems stuck, do i just pull straight up, i dont think it can be screwed off
