I've heard of people doing big blocks in 4th gens, but havn't seen one other than pics so far. I know you need to run a cowl hood if you put a carb on it. You'll have to cut a large notch in the cowl where the carb sits. I'd go fuel injection if I'd do one, but it cost lots more. I was thinking of doing a 402 or a big block my self, but I didn't get to research it yet. The down side is all the extra weight of the big block and that's why I'm leaning toward the 402 at this time. There is no way you can beat the sound of a big block either!

the thing i am worried about is the electronics in the car.. guage cluster, lights, windows etc... if i were to go fuel injection i would have to get custom intake manifolds and wiring harnesses correct?

For the gauges you just need to use the new sensors that match your gauges for they read right. The BCM will still work. You just won't use all the ECU wiring. I'm sure if you called TPI Specialist they could get you set up for Fuel injection they are not cheap. You need mainfold and all of that. Don't do throttle body injection, that suff sucks.

When I was looking into TPI for my truck it was about 5K just for the fuel injection setup. I have a 402 big block done 60over in it. I decided to put off that project for awhile and do more to the TA. I was even thinking of putting that motor in my car. It's around 450 - 500HP right now. I have a real mild cam in it because I had a stock stall with an auto in the truck. If I swapped it into my car I'd put a nice big cam in it. The main problem I see is if there is enough room on top of the motor for the TPI setup and the tall valve covers. I have roller rockers on it and they need the extra room. I might have to try to find something like multiport injection instead for clearance. I don't know what on the market now for big block fuel injection seeing it's been a couple of years since I was looking. My brother had a 396 big block swapped into a 3rd gen with a carb and it fits really good.

You'd still have to cut the cowl and run a cowl hood with that one I think. I'm not to crazy about the 4barrel style throttle body units. I'll have to look around later.

Z everything you are looking for is availible so you can run the factory engine computer. Unless you are looking to have the nostalgic look of a carb, utilizing the stock everything can work. well everything except the factory crank sensor.
if you want to do something REALLY cool wire in all the factory stuff to ur engine and you should be able to pass emission (this has worked in IL). next use AEM plug and play (if and when its availiable) to have an ecu that will allow you to get the most out of your engine.
Most of the wiring on your factory engine can be made to fit your big block. There are solutions to handle the crank sensor issue.

Thanks for the reply you guys... cutting the hood or getting a cowl is no problem.. Now that i know my electronics would work it is time to put somethin in the works
GA= no emissions (yet) hopefully never

Cowl hood and a little triming won't be to big of a deal. Make sure you give us updates and do some pics on the project! A 4th gen would be bad ass with that big or bigger big block!
