Oil Filter

Has anyone ever tried this oil filter? It cost like double the base fram filter. And its suppose to be for 7k oil change intervals rather than 3k.

I figure even if I continue change my oil at 3k or 4k miles then my oil will be just that much cleaner.

Yes fram does suck! Try mobil oil filters or K&N.

Back in the day Fram was made by Champion here in the US. Great filter and made them their reputation they enjoy today. Fram was one of the first sponsors to jump on the racing scene....I remember everybody had a fram in their muscle cars in the 60's and 70's....
Today Fram is made in outer Mongolia and is a glued together cardboard POS.
And is heavily marketed of course and many think it is still the same filter that was made by Champion Products. No ...it is not.
Purolator/AC Delco/NAPA Gold/Motocraft are the best lower cost filters out there.
SuperTech is a good filter suprisingly.
Higher end filters such as KN/Mobil1/WIX/Hastings do flow and filter "better" than the Pures/AC Delco but by so little it is hard to justify the cost difference.
I use dual AC Delco's or NAPA Golds on the black beast.
And yes I said SuperTech from WalMart is a good filter.
And always remember this simple slogan boys and girls when it comes to Fram's.....

so no one has really tested this 7000 mile Fram filter? And the only thing so far anyone's said its that its glued together. hmm.. have you seen that documentary on glue? Do you have any idea how many products within your physical reach use glue? Glue is everywhere. Its a huge industry. And as far as I am concerned, glue doesn't make a filter bad. Somehow they gotta put it together. And I just rolled 90k miles on my car yesterday and its running perfect. And I always use Fram since 46k miles.

The old saying, "You get what you pay for" is very true. I think many of the posters are a bit too adamant about Fram. Get the better 7k filter for the very reasons you listed and still change it at 3k or whatever you feel is right for your car.

You asked, and we're telling you. If you dont like the answer then why are you asking? Fram filters have been tested not to filter as well as other brands. In fact they suck. Seems like you had your mind already made up before you asked. But hey, dont worry, when I was younger I didnt know any better either, and used Fram myself

There are tons of data and unbiased information on Fram filters all over the internet. Hey if you post a question like you did...dont get so defensive about the honest answers.....hell if you want to piss in your crankcase its fine by me......and to answer your question about glue....glue is everywhere but I'll be damned if I want it holding my valve in place on my oil filter....I'll take machine steel and pressed/welded any old day over glued cardboard....Here I'll be specific....
Fram utilizes paper for the endcaps....most use metal....
Frams ADBV design is suspect and failures have been documented.....this should be a rare occurance and Fram is leading in this catagorey (failure of ADBV)....
Media is limited....SuperTech has double the media of a Fram....
The Double Guard Fram filter has Teflon ....bad thing...can you say Slick 50 of days gone by?
At the end of the day...your not gonna kill your motor using a Fram filter....but for the cost of those things there are better filters available.....

me defensive? I asked if anyone has ever used the filter. Thats all. And now I'm pissing in my own crankcase and getting defensive. haha Sounds like you're the defensive one. And so far, since you all brought it up, I just now looked on the web, and all the tests I have seen on the net are for the "tough gaurd" not the extended guard. And THIS ONE COSTS double what the other Frams cost. So again, the question remains. But yawl don't have to answer. I see your getting mad. Also, the tests I saw said the Tough Gaurd was satisfactory...... So I wonder what the extended is like? Anyone, anybody, anyone? haha By the way, I never really asked for you're opinion. Just if anyone has ever used it. So.. think more logically.

oh by the way, I also saw a few minutes ago where supposedly Dupont disapproves of teflon in the motor. ok. And you said Slick 50 is bad..ok.. then why does Quaker State add slick 50 in their oil?

I think oil filters are like mufflers. Some could be a little better than others but all do about the same thing.

I stopped using them so I coudn't tell you.
I doubt if you'll find many ( if any ) Fram users here.

For 3K oil change intervals it isnt bad at all. Middle of the road TBN's....as good as Pennzoil dino....

I work at an autoparts store and I have never seen one of the XG filters come back yet. Still like the others said Fram is rated one of the worst filters on the market. For the price your paying you could get a Mobil 1 (which I don't recommend) or a K&N.

I was at Walmart today and decided to look at the 'upgraded' FRAM filter you mentioned. It was slightly over $8.00 but I believe they are trying to get back in the competition field again as the filter is made in the USA. A good sign. It looked pretty good compared to the 'regular' FRAM. I bet they will do better next time when the filters are tested. In the meantime I'm sticking to GM parts for my GM car. Can't go wrong there. I don't feel like experimenting with something so important.

Ya it also said on the box, that it has a metal backing on the filter part. So, that's part the reason I was asking about this new version of Fram. seemed better. haha
