Black- 99 FRC Corvette
Just bought a 99' FRC C5
Hey guys, just traded in an 02' Mustang GT that I had been modding for a while and got a black 99' FRC C5. Great car so far, I love absolutely everything about it. All the things that I hated about the Mustang were cured with this Corvette. The handling is fantastic (Z51 suspension right?), the brakes are better than the Cobra brakes I put on the Mustang, the power is MUCH better, the driving position is fantastic, and the modding potential is WAY better than a 2V GT any day.
Anyway, I love the car and am now trying to fix all the the "little" things that I've been noticing about it. Here's a few things that I've noticed. I've done some basic searches online, and I'm sure you guys have come across this stuff before...so I apologize for the repetition if that's the case. Anyway, I appreciate in advance and suggestion/comments you guys may have about these issues:
1. Clunk from rear end when shifting (not always, but often)
2. Chattering/ticking from engine (read that these have a LOT of audible engine noise)
3. Air leaking when listening to exhaust, giving it quick revs (most likely exhaust leak from the stock midpipe to whatever catback was installed)
4. Check Engine Light - Code: P0410 (PCM) Secondary Air Injection System
I would love to see what you guys think about these things, especially the Check Engine Light. Got about 5mi from home straight from the dealer when this light came on. He had just put a full tank of gas in it for me, so I naturally assumed that he must have not tightened the gas cap all the way down. So I went ahead and did this and after several driving sessions the light had not cleared. I grabbed the code off the car and then cleared the codes so it turned off the check engine light. I called the dealer and he said that he had put premium in the tank and was certain of it, and that someone else had filled the tank and he wasn't sure if the gas cap was on all the way or not (OR you can't fill your own gas). I tightened it myself to double check, and tonight the Check Engine Light came back on. I like to think positive, so I assume it's either low-grade gasoline in the tank or the seal is bad on the gas cap. The car seems to run fine, although a bit rough. The performance is there and I don't see any other issues related to this.
What do you guys think?
Looking forward to you replies!

As far as the chattering, are the headers stock? Mine was noticeable after the addition of longtubes along with valvetrain work.
The rear end noise, does it happen in certtain gears or all gears? Mine has this when I am in reverse ir first. Common, just need to snug up the main bolt back there (although I don't remember exactly what the term is, I think its the hub bolt??)
Congrats on the car, you are going to love it. The FRC are lighter than the other Vettes so you have a good power to weight advantage, good luck on your other issues.

The tensioners on these things are loud, that could be your engine noise.
-98 GTP Coupe. Silvermist and stock.
-89 GTA*** L98, P1-SC, 24# SVO's, MSD 6-A, March underdrive pulleys, Edelbrock headers/catback and some other goodies.

Torch Red- 1999 Corvette Hardtop
I love the look of the FRC Vettes, I think the hard top looks so much better than the Hatch glass Cars. Plus lighter and stiffer, good choice. I actually think a regular Hard top 99/00 vette looks better than the 01 - 04 ZO6.
By the way, what does the C stand for, is it Fixed Roof Corvette or Fixed roof Coupe or Fixed Roof Compartment, compact? or what? I never did know, just know that it means hard top. Maybe it just means Fixed Roof Car.
And yes the FRC's came standard with the Z51 suspension, so have fun cornering.

Congrats on the upgrade!
Have you tried clearing (resetting) the codes?
