Plane owned by White Plains man crashes on Block Island
(Original publication: July 5, 2006)
A plane owned by a White Plains man has crashed at the end of a runway on Block Island after making unsuccessful attempts to land at three airports in bad weather earlier this afternoon.
A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said that a Piper Cherokee owned by William Homan of 7 Ritchey Place was scheduled to depart from Block Island Airport at 12:07 p.m. but the pilot did not properly notify local authorities before departing.
The plane approached White Plains, Dutchess County and Orange County airports in apparent attempts to land, and was found in pieces near the end of a runway at Block Island at about 3 p.m. today, according to Jim Peters.
No information was available about the identity, condition or number of passengers on the plane, Peters said.

His office comfurmed that he was on it, his wife and his niece.
(07/05/06) WHITE PLAINS - A single-engine plane bound for Westchester County Airport crashed on Block Island, RI Wednesday, killing all three people aboard.
The private plane took off from an airport on Block Island just after noon, but disappeared from the radar. After a three-hour search, the plane was found about a mile off the runway. Officials have not confirmed the identities of the passengers, who are described as a man and two women.
The plane was registered to Dr. William Homan, a prominent White Plains surgeon. Dr. Homan's office manager has confirmed that the doctor, along with his wife and niece, was vacationing on Block Island and due to fly back today.

did they say why he couldn't land at the 3 airports?? That's a major lawsuit if he had problems and wanted to make an emergency landing and they denied him.
