Need advice asap please? 89 Supra?

Hey guys I'm looking at cars for my g/fs brother and I found a guy in town that has an 89 supra for sale. Its red, 5 speed and has 178000 on it. The guys really seems to know his car he has had for 6 or 7 years and you can tell it has been very well taken care of. No rips or wear spots in the cloth seats. The only interior flaw is the center console has a small crack. The paint is glossy red with only a few spots of clear coat wear. He said he just recently put in a new motor. All stock not riced out. He said the only problem was that would need a clutch sometime soon but I didn't drive it yet so I don't know how bad it is. I think I can talk him down to 3000. Is this a good price for a very clean, old body style supra with a new motor? I checked KBB but thats pretty much worthless when you get into the older cars because they don't take popularity into consideration much.

I'd say it's a good deal for 3 grand... those motors didn't have much power but they were damn near bullet proof, and the clutch on those cars is sooooo easy to do. I don't know how much the parts would run but the labor shouldn't be much and it's free if you know how yourself.

Well we had pretty much talked ourselves into buying it for him and then letting him make payments to me, but I checked insurance on it and HOLY SHIT. Insurance on those bastards are crazy.
