TX: Open Carry and Campus Carry Passed, Gov Expected to Sign

...although it seems the "open carry" law is pretty watered down given (if I read it right) a "CHL" is required to "open carry"

..but the campus carry is, as uncle joe biden says, "a big f-ing deal"...

I never liked open carry. But I like campus carry with those who posses a permit.

I don't see a big difference with concealed carry and open carry because you still have a gun on your person. One you can see and one you can't. I personally like an open carry because it shows others that you have a weapon and that may stop trouble before it starts. I guess that is why cops always open carry.

True open-carry may stop something before it happens. But criminals could just wait for them to leave. Now if only concealed-carry were legal. A criminal will not know who is armed.
    I can see both sides.

The difference to me is weapon retention. LEO have holsters that for the most part keep the weapon in the holster. CCW'ers usually won't use a holster like that.
I personally wouldn't want to advertise my $1000 Sig and tempt someone into trying to steal it.

There is a huge difference between concealed and open carry. Open carry invites all kinds of problems. People get freaked out, you have a much higher chance of getting the police called on you, and you just made yourself the first person to get shot by a criminal that's planning some sort of crime (and they won't show you their gun until its most likely pointed at you. You'll be their first priority to eliminate as a threat to heir success. Open carry is a bad idea everywhere, and most true gun advocates agree. I think the right to do so should exist, but in the end, 99% of those doing so are doing it for thre wrong reasons.

With uniformed police, there is no reason to assume that they wouldn't have a gun, so open or concealed makes no difference in this case.

If you are in a state with open carry is that your only option or is it both open or concealed ? As far as someone trying to steal your $1000 Sig, well, you have a gun on you right. Use it.

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about either one because here in the socialist state of New Jerseygrad we are not allowed to have any type of gun off of private property. Not even a pellet or BB gun. No firecrackers or even sparklers. Nothing. No CCW for any reason. You can't even buy cap guns anymore. NJ is the model of government overreach and state rule.

Trouble with that is, they know what I am carrying. I have no idea who is the criminal. They can just knock me over the head from behind and grab my weapon.
With it concealed, I won't stand out.

Now if I was in a state that only allowed open-carry. Yes I would carry a pistol.

I have used open carry.... until 2011 that was the only kind of carry WI had. In the rural areas it works fine but I spend most of my time in the city/suburbs where the only thing it does is scare the crap out of every mom in the area. They'll put you in the same group as the guy behind the bushes with binoculars and a windowless cargo van.

...that's the cliché argument (by the antis)... 21yrs old or older, and you get vetted for the state-issued CHL, ...the stereotype is a weak one... the people who'd carry are probably females who would like a fighting chance against attackers, and keep in mind, ...there are "older" folks who attend college later in life, for a variety of reasons.. why shouldn't these folks be able to protect themselves in crossing the threshold of a public "campus"???...

BTW, I believe they've had "campus carry" in UT for a while, and I don't recall hearing about "frat partiers" w/ CHLs acting irresponsibly... the anti's argument is a specious one, and it's because they don't like empowering the individual...

Campus carry is fine. But I think if you are illegally drunk, you should not be carrying.

So a drink with dinner, carrying is illegal? That sucks.
I think if you can legally drive a car, you should be able to legally carry.

yep, ...thing is though, w/ any substance such as alcohol, the lines can become blurred pretty easily (pardon the pun), in terms of behavioral influence, physical reaction time, etc..

It's 100% sobriety in most states. So if you want to carry, have a cherry coke. Even if it wasn't the law and you could be up to .08% BAC and still carry imagine if you actually had to shoot someone with a few drinks in you. The lawyers for the state or family of the person you shot would most definitely use that in court.

Personally, if I carry. I am not drinking at all. Safer that way.
