Pewter- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am
Clutch Issues
Alrighty folks my 2000 Trans Am has been having some issues. When i push the clutch down i only have a clutch for about 6 or 7 seconds, after that Ive lost it. If i put it in first gear and hold the clutch pedal to the floor the car will start moving after a couple seconds, i have to put my foot under the pedal lift it up and pump it a couple times to get any sort of clutch back.
Ive bleed the clutch with a mity vac a couple times, put new fluid in it and nothing works. I do not loose fluid, no external leaks or loss of fluid in the reservoir.
Ive read on here that it is probably a master or slave cylinder issue so i guess my question is who makes a good one, ive heard good things about Tick and Mcleod just wondering if there was anything else i should look it.
Edit: Its been like this for about 3 years now, finaly starting to get some money and time to fix it.
Its also getting a little worse, I lost it for the first time driving down the road, went to hit the clutch to stop and there was no clutch, luckily i drive accordingly and had more than enough room to get it fixed and stop.

Sounds like your MC is gone.
Stick with the gm slave. Most here use and recommend Tick MC's.

Is there a way to test and see for sure which is bad. replacing just the mc would be a lot easier.

Pretty much what you just did. Replace the fluid and bleed air out. If pedal continues to stick to the floor.
Slave has other symptoms.

When my master went out I went with the new GM one. Don't remember the price difference but it was cheaper, and I didn't have any issues. No matter which one you go with change your fluid regularly and it will last longer.

Well let me clarify. If you are sticking with a stock clutch then stay with GM. If you are upgrading or plan on upgrading with power mods then go with Tick.

It has been years since I did mine. But at the time it seems that I read the factory master had been upgraded a bit from the original. What kind of hp do you think the newer factory master will handle?

I really couldn't say, I just know my MC from my 98 was able to handle the LS7 clutch I had. Last summer because of doing a complete drive train upgrade I went with Tick to handle current & future power levels and also because I have a Monster Stg 4 clutch now.
Only major negative design flaw was the orifice was too small on GM MC's that while under rapid shifting (like at a track) the MC couldn't move fluid fast enough and grinding of the gears happen. That is why some do the drill mod to help that.
