    MAGPUL is leaving CO

Colo. company leaving over new gun magazine law

    Magpul is leaving......

A Colorado ammunition magazine manufacturer is making good on a threat to leave the state after lawmakers approved new gun laws. Magpul Industries says it plans to begin packing up as soon as possible for a move to several other states. A search is under way to find new locations.

According to the Denver Post (Magpul says move out of Colorado "underway," and others will follow - The Denver Post ), Magpul chief operating officer Doug Smith said Wednesday a bill signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper that prohibits the sale of gun magazines with more than 15 rounds could seriously impact the company's business.

The new law had a provision where Magpul could still operate here as they do now, just couldnt sell most of their magazines here. They're doing this on principle, which is understandable. On the bright side, the new law doesnt take effect until July, so the market in Colorado is going to be overflowing with magazines

There are a few states that are even more gun friendly than Texas.

According to a Guns & Ammo survey TX ranks 15th while AL ranked 7th. Surprised the hell out of me....

And WI is number 25 LOL. We are 25th at everything except drinking and crystal meth. We are usually number 1 or 2 at drinking and number 49th in meth only Alaska has less meth but in everything else 25th. I actually said to myself when I opened that article I bet WI is around 25th.

OK should move a bit down that list now. We now have open carry legislation, and a law just passed allowing teachers to carry. I like to think we are a gun-friendly state for the most part. We rank 16th in ownership according to that article. Not surprising.

AL is fixing to make a couple of changes as well.

This is expected to be signed into law very soon.

SB 286, sponsored by state Senators Scott Beason (R-17) and Roger Bedford (D-6), seeks to restore and protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners in Alabama by addressing the following issues:

    • No employer may prohibit the otherwise lawful possession, transportation or storage of firearms or ammunition that is kept out of sight within a locked or attended private vehicle of an invitee who is otherwise permitted to operate or park that vehicle on the property. This would allow employees to carry a firearm during their commute to and from work.
    • Repeals the requirement to obtain a pistol permit in order to carry a pistol in a vehicle. (Note: this would not allow for concealed carrying in a vehicle unless a valid pistol permit is possessed.)
    • Shifts the current “May Issue” concealed carry permit system to a “Shall Issue” permit system and requires that a sheriff must issue the carry permit within thirty days. Should someone be denied a permit, a written denial must be provided and that applicant would have an opportunity to appear before an appeal panel. (This is a big deal here, it's been argue over for over a decade now)
    • A permit to carry a concealed pistol shall be good for one to five years (to be decided by the applicant seeking the carry permit). (Plus for me - every yr have to reapply, this will now let me go out to 5 yrs)
    • Requires sheriffs to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to conduct a background check on concealed pistol permit applicants.
    • Allows for all other valid state-issued permits to carry a concealed firearm to be recognized in Alabama.
    • Strengthens Alabama’s firearms preemption statute by reserving for the state legislature complete control over regulation and policy relating to firearms, ammunition and firearm accessories in order to ensure that such regulation is applied uniformly throughout the state. (Another big deal - some cities LEO's were issuing "Disturbing the peace" to ppl that were legally "open" carrying for nothing more then that. This change also defines what "Open" carry is and strengthens it.)

There are more but these were the top points of interest.

WI has had open carry for a long time and it is nothing but a hassle to gun carriers. At least around here. I was so excited when CCW was law on 11-1-2011 because it meant I could carry without being harrassed by police or looked at like I was a monster by every mother at the grocery store.

It's been kinda strange here, for example...

It was maybe two years ago, I was out and went to a Walmart to get something. Had no issues through out the 40 mins me & my wife were shopping. As we were heading to the check out a Sheriff approach me and I had a feeling he was going to ask. He did ask if I was carrying and a CCW permit holder (reason why is because my shirt was over it making it concealed), I made sure he knew I was reaching for my wallet to retreve my permit and did so. He looks at it and my DL & Retired Mill ID. He then says ok and thanks me. I was like ok? So I asked him what prompt the check. He stated that someone reported that I was brandishing it openly. I was like I reply I know it was printing but never would I do something as reckless as that. He goes "no issue, just had to make sure" and I politely thanked him. Well as we checked out I see him go over to a Walmart worker, assuming she was a manager of some sort. Heard him tell her I was ok, no laws violated. She looked like I shit in her Wheaties. The look I gave her on the way out

find a mirror in the store so you can watch yourself, wait until one of those mothers is around to see you, practice your quick draw pointing it at the mirror and saying "die bitch die" while making fake gun shot sounds with your mouth, and thank me for showing you how to keep everyone away from you while you do the rest of your shopping and an open line at the register when you get there.

Haha, I will have to give that a try.
