I just sprayed a rear TA bumper for a customer and did the CETA mod for him. I used a flat clear over the color for a dull appearance. Looked really nice and won't show exhaust residue/haze. Easier maintanance I would think.
Gloss looks good too though. I think I have a pic here somewhere.

Here's a shot of one I did. It's all base/clear, except I used a flat clear on the lower section to set if off from the rest of it.

I like subtle yet a nice touch.
The one I saw today was like you said, a silver color instead of black.
