Change oil light...600 miles??

My change oil light is coming on when I start my car and then goes off after a couple minutes. I changed the oil less than 700 miles ago? I read somewhere that the car doesn't just go by how long ago the oil was changed, but it also goes by how high the RPM's were and how hot the oil gets. I don't know if this is true or not, but I do not drive the car hard by a long shot. My battery died not long ago and I think it started about that same time. Since then I got another battery but it still keeps coming on... any suggestions?

The GM oil life system needs to be reset manually when you change the oil. Turn key to RUN, press and hold the oil/trip reset button on the dash until it flashes and goes off. Or you can turn the key on and depress the gas pedal three times if you don't want to reset the trip odometer. I change mine by mileage - takes way too long for the change oil light to come on IMO.

You simply have to reset the light. Check your owners manual for the specific procedure. For my '02 it resets by the Trip odometer reset. Key on, engine off, press odometer rest for 12 seconds, lamp should flash then go out. Done. Turn key off, wait about 30 seconds, Start engine, see if light returns.

yep, worked. Thanks guys. I did that when I changed the oil, I guess I just didn't know why it was still going off? Could it have to do with my battery dying, cause I know it kept resetting my trip odometer when it would get low.
