Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A, 00 FBVert, 78T/A
Are you using the correct keys to the car?
Your post says 2 different things? I'm asking for clarity.
If you insert the ignition key and the security light blinks and stays on that is the PassII Alarm system. Your key either needs cleaned up (try first), or the chip in the key is not reading right. You can get a new key from the dealership for about $20 that matches the VIN or you can do the VAT's bypass.
now if your key is not the problem and it is the key fob not working properly because is a different one then the one you got with the car then it is most likely that the key fob is not coded to match to the car's BCM (Body Control Module).
The BCM is coded to match you VIN number. That is why you can't open another FB next to you with your key fob.
I know your next question will most likely be - "how do I get this (key fob) replaced? A - You will need to either buy another one from the dealership or have them reprogram the BCM to the key fob you are using. It's not cheap to reprogram. Last time I checked it was around $190. At replacement fob match to the VIN is much cheaper.

GM LeMans/Luxo Blue- 2001 Firebird Formula
I picked up a replacement/spare fob on eBay for $20 used. There is a code on the back of your fob something like
Manufacturer Part Number: ABO1502T
Interchange Part Number: 16245100-29
The interchange number will vary. The fob I got this number from is an eBay auction selling for $27 shipped. I won't post a link because I have no way of knowing if it will work for your car because of the interchange number so check your number first. If you don't have the original fob I really have no idea how to find which one will work...
