    hi

I'm new to the site. I'm also a proud owner of a fourth gen bird. I love the car and it has
a lot of centimental value. I ve read some of the posts about swapping in a v8,I've got the
block and heads, putting in a eagle crank with stock rods and pistons,I know I shouldn't but
I'm on a budget, the block is a roller block, was wondering if a one piece drive shaft out of a
S 10 truck or blazer would work? I'm using a 700r4 trans, also any engine bay clerance images
for a carbed v8 would be helpful.thanx for any and all help and informative

    Welcome aboard!

One of the reasons for the front look change to the 4th gens was because the LS1 engine is taller than the LT1..

If you're moving into and LT1 or just a chevy small block you may have issues with your stock hood..

I am guessing your current engine is a 3.4L v6..?

Since the 700r4 was still being used in 93 I would look for an LT1 4th gen driveshaft..

You may need to modify an s-10 shaft to work..

Thanks! I should have clearified tho, mainly if they go to a carb they may have trouble getting it to fit under the hood..

If he/they change over to a fuel injected LT1 he should'nt have any trouble with the hood closing..

Mostly there's going to need to be much suspension work, and the rear from the v6 will prolly not hold for long under v8 torque..

Definetly do-able but lots of change overs will need done..

Welcome to the site! Just south of Corning, NY and happen to have a stock aluminum driveshaft from our car setting in my lower garage. Has a new rear u-joint with maybe 1,500 miles on it before I replaced the driveshaft with a PST unit. Trying to remember, but I think the stock u-joints are 1320's -- not that it matters though as you can pick up adapter joints at just about any parts store.

Pretty sure the 3.4L v6 (only v6 offered in 93) used different U-joints than the LS cars, and I am not sure the 4L60e shaft will work with a 700r4's length..

Unless I am mistaken, the 700R4 and 4L60E are essentially the same transmission, only with electronic controls in lieu of TVS cable. Not on clue on what u-joints he would have.
